About the Beginner Violin, Viola and Cello Group Lessons

This program allows students the opportunity to learn how to play a stringed instrument in a small group lesson.

  • The group has a maximum number of 6-8 students
  • Each lesson is 1/2 hour with our fabulous strings conductors
  • You are not required to have a tutor
  • The program is for Term 1 and Term 2
  • The program fee is $320
  • You are required to bring an instrument to lessons. You can either hire or purchase an instrument. Dont forget the shoulder rest too (Violin and Violas).
  • It is important to practice daily, however, 5 minutes is all you need to start with.

Finding the right sized instrument for your child

It is essential to have the right  size for your child. Students are required to obtain their own instrument when joining the Strings Program, either purchase or hire. We recommend the Sydney Strings Centre for your violin requirements.

The Sydney Strings Centre has a dedicated page to answer all your questions about hiring a violin. Please check them out here: Beginner Instrument Rentals from the Sydney Strings Centre

Shoulder rests (Violin and Viola)

You will also need to purchase a shoulder rest. They are not available to hire, as the Sydney Strings Centre explain below:

"The foam on a shoulder rest can be difficult to clean, so for hygiene reasons we do not include shoulder rests with our rental instruments. A shoulder rest is a personal purchase based on body type, so a generic shoulder rest is not suitable for everyone. We encourage customers to purchase a shoulder rest that is most comfortable for the player and quite often one shoulder rest will be suitable for two or more violin sizes, so you are sure to get good value out of your purchase."
