Sail Gosford NSW O’pen Skiff State Championship - Regatta Report

The Sail Gosford – NSW O’pen Skiff State Championships was successfully hosted by Gosford Sailing Club over the weekend of 28 February – 1 March 2026 on the waters of Brisbane Water. The regatta attracted a strong fleet of junior sailors from across New South Wales and Queensland, with approximately 43 O’pen Skiffs competing across Green, Silver and Gold fleets. 

The two-day championship delivered a full program of racing, with sailors tested across a range of wind conditions typical of Brisbane Water.

Throughout the weekend, competitors demonstrated impressive boat handling, tactical awareness and determination on the racecourse. The fleet included a mix of experienced sailors and those newer to the class, with the Green Fleet providing an encouraging entry point for developing sailors, while Silver and Gold fleets delivered highly competitive racing. GSC had 9 kids representing the Club, with fantastic results all around.Phoenix Opeddisano delivered a standout performance, placing 1st in Silver Fleet and receiving a Sportsmanship award. Off the water, the regatta created a fantastic community atmosphere at Gosford Sailing Club. Families, volunteers and supporters gathered for a Saturday evening BBQ, providing a great opportunity for sailors and parents to connect and celebrate the day’s racing.

The success of the event was made possible thanks to the dedication of the race management team, rescue boat crews, club and parent volunteers who contributed their time and effort throughout the weekend. Special thanks are also extended to the event organiser Sophie who coordinated entries, logistics and on-shore operations to ensure the regatta ran smoothly.

The Sail Gosford regatta once again highlighted the strength of junior sailing and the importance of providing high-quality events that support the development of young sailors. Gosford Sailing Club looks forward to welcoming sailors back to Brisbane Water for future events.
