Opening Weekend has always been a special tradition at Falls Creek. Celebrated over the King’s Birthday long weekend in June, the village fills with energy as preparations gather pace and familiar faces return to the mountain. It’s a special time to catch up with friends, reconnect as a community and share in the anticipation of a new winter season.
Although the Winter Sports Programs don’t officially start for another few weeks, Opening Weekend is a great opportunity to unpack the winter gear, marvel at how quickly kids have outgrown last year’s jackets and boots, soak up the alpine vibes and celebrate the return of winter.
Read on for Club updates, working bees, and member specials happening around Falls Creek during Opening Weekend.

Over the past eight years, Mark has made an exceptional contribution to FCRC through his leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to our athletes, families, and broader club community. As President, he has guided the Club through a period of significant growth and change while remaining true to FCRC’s purpose: fostering a lifelong love of winter sports and helping young people grow through participation in skiing and snowboarding. Under his leadership, the Club has continued to promote resilience, teamwork, and community while creating opportunities for athletes to develop and succeed at every level of winter sports.
Mark has been instrumental in strengthening our programs through the recruitment and retention of high-quality coaches, championing athlete scholarships, establishing a corporate sponsorship program, and supporting major athlete development initiatives. During his tenure, the Club appointed its first Athletic Director, launched a refreshed brand and new uniforms, and continued to expand opportunities across both Alpine and Freestyle programs. At this year’s AGM, Mark delivered his final President’s Report, bringing to a close eight years of dedicated volunteer service. While stepping down from his formal role, he remains a valued member of the Falls Creek community and a passionate supporter of the Club.
On behalf of all members, athletes, coaches, volunteers and families, we extend our sincere thanks to Mark for his outstanding service and leadership. The programs, partnerships and culture he has helped build will continue to benefit Falls Creek Race Club for many years to come.
Thank you, Mark, for the lasting legacy you leave for future generations of FCRC athletes and families.

Opening Weekend Working Bees
|
|
|
|
With winter fast approaching, it's time to get FCRC season-ready. Our clubhouse and gym are in need of some TLC, and the trampoline dryland training facility in Bogong Village needs to be set up before athletes return for the season.
As a volunteer-run club, FCRC relies on the support of our members to help maintain the facilities and programs that make our Club so special. Whether you can spare an hour, a morning or an afternoon, every contribution helps ensure we're ready to welcome athletes and families for another fantastic winter.
Working bees for the gym and clubhouse will be held thisSaturday, 6th June at 10am-12noon and then 1-3pm. Tasks will include general cleaning and maintenance, organising equipment, clearing out unused items, transporting items off the mountain and disposing, and preparing our facilities for the busy winter ahead.
Many hands make light work, and every helping hand contributes to the Club experience our athletes and families enjoy throughout the season.Volunteering is a great opportunity to put hours towards reclaiming your $220 work levy.

Gear Up for Winter - Freebies & Gear Swap
|

|
|
|
As part of our Opening Weekend clubhouse clean out, we’re hosting a Gear Swap + Giveaways + Clearance session.
Join us on Sunday, 7th June at 3-5pm at the FCRC Clubhouse(inside and outside near Alpine Pepper — the first building you drive past when you enter the village).
What to bring:
Bring any Falls Creek Race Club–related gear you no longer need, for example:
- skis, poles, boards
- ski jackets/pants, race suits
- boots and outgrown thermals
- socks, tuning gear, etc.
How it works
- You must supervise your own gear throughout the swap/sale. This is not a drop-and-run event. Members selling items are required to remain with their gear and manage their own sales throughout the swap.
- Have your PayID ready so buyers can pay easily.
- It’s a great opportunity to pick up gear you may need for the coming season for your kids.
Clubhouse Unclaimed Items Clearance
As part of our clubhouse clean-out, we'll also be selling a range of gear that has been stored at the clubhouse for at least 5 years. If it isn’t claimed beforehand, we will be selling off items including: race suits, skis, clothing, and miscellaneous equipment. There will be plenty of bargains to be had, with some items available at reduced to clear prices and others completely free to a good home.
Come along, clear out the old, grab what you need, and meet other Race Club families as we get ready for winter!
Volunteers Get First Pick
As a thank you to those helping at our Opening Weekend working bees, volunteers will receive first access to clubhouse clearance items.

As we kick off another winter season, we encourage members to support the local businesses that help keep our mountain community thriving. Many of these businesses support Club families, sponsor community initiatives, and contribute to the unique character and spirit of Falls Creek.
Whether it’s a coffee, a meal, some new gear or an overnight stay, every dollar spent locally helps strengthen the village we all know and love.
Support local. Support Falls. Help keep our mountain community strong.
