Artificial hockey surfaces came to Australia in 1979, with the opening of the first stadium at the Curtin University campus in Perth.  Since then other artificial surfaces have been established in metropolitan & regional Western Australia continue to grow.

The Goldfields stadium and the surface was designed by professional engineers and architects, in conjunction with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association.  Emphasis was placed on the quality of the surface itself, and this continues today.

The original project was completed at the end of 1990 and is located in Boomerang Crescent off Lionel Street with great viewing by spectators with full Clubhouse facilities, securely fenced and attractively landscaped.  Is a multi-use facilities used from schools to social sporting or fundraising events of community groups.

The hockey fraternity supplied their contribution to establishment of this project by way of a self-supporting loan, self-help construction and commercial sponsorship.  The entire facility, including the land is owned by the City Council and leased to the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association. This facility has enable Hockey to become a year-round sport

The stadium has seen visiting teams from China, Japan alongside the State's National Hockey Team (Perth Thundersticks), the National Women’s team (Hockeyroos) and is expected to continue in the future that hopeful include the National Men's Team (Kookaburras) or other visiting teams to the State..

Ongoing assessments of facilities of the stadium development continue to meeting the requirements for community users and towards strengthening hockey on the Goldfields.  Thanks to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder & State Government for continued support so members can continue to enjoy a first-class facility for the sport of hockey on the Goldfields.
