Flying 11

Flying 11s at Belmont

The Flying Eleven is an exciting, light weight racing dinghy, competitively sailed by 2 people of a preferable combined crew weight between 75 and 115kgs.

Designed in Australia for Aussie conditions, the F11 is a one design class with strictly enforced hull, sail and rig measurements. Main, jib & spinnaker.

Currently raced in NSW  & Queensland and there are a few boats in New Zealand.

It is an excellent follow-on boat for junior classes. The class is very strong around Australia, and is an outstanding class of boat for developing 3-sail handling by young sailors.  This Class is also sailed at a State and National level, offereing junior sailors experiences beyond Club Competition. This is an incredibly social, fun and competitive class to be in.

Ages: 6 years – 18 years

When do Flying 11's sail?

Flying 11s sail on a Saturday Afternoon from mid Sept to the end of March. During this period there are breaks for holidays, weekends away for state championships and a national championship regatta in January. The state and national regattas are encouraged, but up to boat as to whether they enter.

How do I get involved?

Reach out to our Sailing Manager and/or Class Captain Jon Drummond or  you can drop down to the Club on a Saturday during the sailing season. F11’s from 1.00 – 2pm. Best time to meet F11 sailors and families is between 12.30 – 1.30pm.

If you have a boat, you can join up and start racing. If you are looking for a boat, we can help point you in the right direction. If you are looking to crew or skipper someone else’s boat, we can put your name on our available crew register.

How do parents become involved?

Our Junior sailing relys on parent volunteers. We encourage parents to get involved on the start boat, rescue boats or in other support activities.  If interested in volunteering please head tohttps://www.revolutionise.com.au/belmont16ftsc/volunteering/ or contact the Sailing Office on 4945 7736 to see what's involved.  If you are unable to volunteer, no pressure, as we want your kids sailing. All we ask is that your child is old enough to not need supervision off the water if you drop and run 😊.

What is the cost of sailing?

Season sailor registration is $55. Boat storage costs also apply if you choose to leave your boat at the Club.
