Bluewater solo sailor visiting WMYC during her world circumnavigation

Elana Connor and her dog Zia are sailing on a mission: “… spreading empathy, raising global awareness about youth in foster care, and creating a compelling story and a light for other former foster youth and the communities that support them”.

Elana and Zia sailed from California to Australia, via New Zealand, in her sloop, Windfola, a 1985 Sabre 34. When in New Zealand. their planned circumnavigation was interrupted by COVID, so, she did a figure eight around New Zealand.

WIndfola was  berthed at WMYC for a three days and Elana shared her story at WMYC “Telltales” presentation.

She is also  provided a learning opportunity for sailors, "Intro to Inboard Diesel Engine Collaborative Workshop"
Two groups of 8 ( all women as it happens ) had a very valuable learning experience. The feedback was extrordinarily positive

Her website makes compelling reading: https://www.peregrinasails.com/

Elana's circumnavigation has a focus:

I seek to increase awareness globally about foster care, to promote local organizations working with foster and at-risk youth

She would like us to support:

1. CREATE Foundation, which works directly with young people in state care to connect and empower them: https://create.org.au/donate/
2. Brisbane Youth Service, which supports young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness: https://notforrent.brisyouth.org/
