  Sunday Afternoon Go Sailing

Sunday Afternoon Go Sailing (SAGS) is a series of regular Sunday afternoon pursuit races conducted by WMSC with divisions for both white sail and spinnaker boats.

We race most Sundays of the year unless there is a major event on, and we also have a break during the summer holidays.

These series are done in a friendly relaxed atmosphere while still being competitive where skippers and crew can improve their skills. We are aiming for an average fleet elapsed time of about 150 minutes per race, with most yachts starting between 1 and 2 pm.  Most skippers and crew will be back in the club by about 4 pm or soon thereafter when most of them stay to mingle and have a drink.

Register in advance and arrive after 11:30 for the 11:45 briefing in the club room of the Wynnum Manly Yacht Club.

The 2024 Feb June Series will be open for entry mid December.

Changes to SAGs 2024:

series entry fee has dropped now $100 ie $5 per race

2024 we will have two divisions:

  • Division 1 longer course  (spinnakers and loose luff sails optional but must be selected at entry for the entire season as handicaps are adjusted for + or – spinnaker)
  • Division 2 Shorter course (spinnakers and loose luff sails optional but must be selected at entry for the entire season as handicaps are adjusted for =+or – spinnaker)

New rules for when to drop that kite:

29.    USE OF SPINNAKERS AND LOOSE LUFF SAILS

29.1 When the course to the finish passes to the South of Green Island spinnakers may be carried to the finish line. When the course to the finish passes to the North of Green Island spinnakers shall not be flown beyond the Green Island West Cardinal navigation marker.
