Welcome to WHA Junior Country Championships

Friday, May 16 - Sunday, May 18, 2025

The Junior Country Championships is a fantastic weekend of hockey, played on turf at major hockey centres in Melbourne. It is a great opportunity to improve skills and meet other players from WHA and other associations around the state. A team shirt is supplied but players must supply their own blue shorts/skorts and yellow socks.

We are hoping to enter teams in each age group, but will seek positions in neighbouring associations if we are unable to fill a team. The age groups are:

Under 14 (2011 - 2013) at Essendon Hockey Centre

Under 16 (2009 or 2010) at Greensborough Hockey Centre

Under 18 (2007 - 2008) at the Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville. 

The cost will be approximately $300 which includes team entry fee, shirt hire, pitch hire, balls, bus, accommodation, breakfast, Saturday night tea and is dependent on team numbers. 

Adults – Coach/Manager/Helper/Umpire

We welcome any assistance with coaching, umpiring, managing or come along as a parent helper. Please indicate if you are willing to assist by registering at the link listed below. We are only able to continue to compete in this event if we find enough adults to fill these roles. Each team will have a coach, team manager, and at least a parent helper.

Umpires
Hockey Victoria will be supporting the development of umpires by providing Qualified Umpire Coaches and feedback throughout the championship for participants. It is recommended that for each team that is entered, one umpire is supplied for the championship from the association. This is an excellent opportunity for WHA umpires to be assessed and signed off for level one umpiring. Playing/Coaching at JCC and Umpiring: For those that wish to coach/play in the event and to umpire, there is the opportunity to request to umpire directly after WHA games. The Umpire Manager will work closely with the individual to roster them to umpire matches that do not conflict with their playing or coaching commitments.

Socks
Thinskin yellow playing socks will be available for purchase upon registration at a cost of $15.
 

Training

When: Sunday, May 4th

Time: 10am – 12pm

Where: Dimboola Hockey Ground

Who: All players, team managers, coaches and parent helpers.

Why: Fit out teams with uniforms, get to know who is in your team, who is your team manager, parent helper & coach.
