About

Warringah Softball Club is located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and is part of the Manly Warringah Softball Association. Saturdays from September to March the club has matches played on the diamonds at the corner of Abbott and Harbord Roads in Curl Curl.  Our club is one of the most proactive clubs in NSW and has previously been voted NSW Softball Club of the Year.  We are the one largest clubs on the Northern Beaches.  Teams comprise players ranging in age from 5 year olds through to ladies in their 50s and 60s.

WSC Prides itself on an extremely strong junior representation, starting with Teeball players and covering all levels up to the top Division 1 team.  The senior players cover all women from social players to A Grade players.

Although a womens sport, many dads are very involved and help with anything from scoring, umpiring and BBQs.  We are are social club and hold a number of social functions during the year.

Our committee works hard to keep the financial costs for families as low as possible. We manage this by working hard to secure sponsorship which helps keep costs down as well as provide excellent team uniforms and equipment.

History

Warringah Softball Club was formed in 2002. Originally we played as members of Warringah Baseball Club until it was recognised that the softball numbers were growing at a significant rate.  It was then decided that the softball players needed to form a club of their own as the needs of the Softball players was very different to the needs of the Baseball players.

Warringah Softball Club was then formed under the guidance of Anitra Walker and Colin Wilson. They belonged to a team that brought the vision of a financially viable dedicated softball club to reality and helped the club to move from 10 junior teams to 22 senior and junior teams in the space of just 3 years.  Since then we have grown to become the largest Club in the MWSA catering to all abilities and wining the valued award of NSW Club of the Year in 2008-2009.

Colin Wilson Memorial Award

Colin Wilson began his association with softball when his daughter Kristy joined Warringah Baseball Club. Colin immediately began to contribute above and beyond the level expected of most parents. His love of the sport lead him to serve the softball community in Manly Warringah well beyond the boundaries of the club.

Colin was the first Warringah Softball Club representative elected to the MWSA committee. He assumed the position of groundsman which often lead him to work at the diamonds mid-week as well as a Saturday from 6am til after 6pm and at times taking his own lawn mower down if the grounds had not been mowed by council.

On a personal level Colin gave his time to so many - not matter what club they were registered with and whenever he was able. All anyone had to do was ask and Colin would help. Sadly Colin passed away in May 2004. His wife, Petrina, and daughter Kristy, donated the "Colin Wilson Memorial Trophy" in Colin’s memory. This trophy is awarded annually to a person associated with the Club.

The criteria to be considered for this award which is open to anyone, junior or senior (player, coach, umpire or parent) who has contributed to the sport of softball and displays in a season the many qualities that Colin Wilson came to represent for this club.

These qualities would include working for Warringah Softball Club above and beyond the efforts normally expected of a reasonable person. If you feel that you know someone of these attributes please nominate them for consideration by the first week in March.
