Dear All,

1. Appointment of VKR Treasurer and Member Protection Information Officer

The VKR is pleased to announce that Tony Borello (MBK) has agreed to be the VKR's Treasurer and has been appointed by the VKR Committee as per the VKR Rules. He can be contacted on treasurer@kendovictoria.asn.au

The VKR is also pleased to announce that Michael Sanger (Nanseikan) has agreed to be the VKR's Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO). This role is independent to the VKR Committee and is available to be contacted by a VKR member should they have a complaint about the VKR or another member of the VKR. The MPIO provides the complainant with support and information about how they wish to proceed and what services are available to them. Michael can be contacted at mwsanger@vicbar.com.au

2. Victorian Kendo Championships 2023

The VKC will be held on 13-14 August at Victoria University. An information pack, including schedule and draw will be sent out soon to registered participants.

3. VKC Shimpan Seminar and Volunteer Briefing

A reminder that a Shimpan Seminar and Volunteer Briefing will be held on Sunday 7 August, 12.30-3.30pm at the Kenshikan. It will be conducted by the Victorian Kendo Technical Committee.

Shimpan:

All VKR Members 4 Dan and above are encouraged to attend. In particular, all Shimpan attending the VKC are expected to attend this Seminar to ensure they are aware of the latest shiai rules.

Please attend in Shimpan uniform or Keiko-gi and Hakama and bring your own Shimpan flags if possible.

Volunteers:

A volunteer briefing and training session will be conducted as part of the Shimpan Seminar.

All volunteers are encouraged to attend. 

Volunteers should arrive at 12.30pm for a briefing and to conduct shinai 'check-in' and Shiai-jo set-up.

Shiai-Sha:

To support the Shimpan Seminar, the VKR is seeking more volunteers to act as Shiai-Sha. If you are 3 Kyu to 2 Dan and are available please register here: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/vkr/events/144655/

Shiai-sha should arrive at 12.30pm for shinai 'check-in' and be warmed up and ready to perform 'shiai' from 1pm.

COVID Rules:

  • Kenshikan COVID Rules will apply.
  • Face masks are highly recommended.

 

4. VKR State Coaching Team Appointed

The VKR/VKTC is pleased to announce the appointment of the VKR Coaching Team for the 2023 Australian Kendo Championships as follows:

  • Head Coach: Kazuya Kimura (5 Dan)
  • Assistant Coach: Tarl O'Mara (5 Dan)
  • Assistant Coach: Trent Reeve (4 Dan)
  • Team Manager: Hoey Yein Goh (4 Dan)

The VKR/VKTC congratulates the team and wishes them success as they start the Victorian campaign.

Victorian Squad training is scheduled to commence in September and further details regarding how to be part of the squad will come out in the coming weeks.

5. September Kendo Grading

A VKR Kendo Grading for 1 Dan - 4 Dan will be held on Sunday 18 September 2022 at the Kenshikan, West Melbourne.

Application details will be sent to Club Secretaries in mid August.
