When members arrived at the shed yesterday morning (22JUL26), it was discovered that one of the wheels on the tinny had snapped.
 
While accidents can happen when Club equipment is being used, it is essential that any damage is reported as soon as possible. In this instance, the damage had not been reported.
 
The damaged wheel makes it extremely difficult to manoeuvre the tinny from the shed and safely down the steep launch ramp, particularly when only one person is available. As the Club's primary rescue craft, this reduces our ability to deploy the tinny quickly and safely in the event of an on-water emergency.
 
Based on the nature of the damage and the position in which the tinny was found, it appears the damage may have resulted from the tinny being pushed or dragged sideways. The tinny had also been left positioned very close to the quad racks, making it difficult to remove from the shed.
 
Members are expected to comply with Club policies and procedures, including the requirement to wheel the tinny completely out of the shed before removing or returning boats to that bay. This procedure protects both the tinny and our rowing equipment and ensures the rescue boat remains immediately accessible at all times.
 
If you are unsure how to move or reposition the tinny safely, please ask a Committee member for assistance before attempting to do so.
 
If damage occurs, regardless of how minor it may appear, it must be reported immediately. Prompt reporting is not about assigning blame—it allows the Committee to assess safety risks, arrange repairs and minimise disruption to Club operations.
 
Reports can be made via WhatsApp, text message, email, the maintenance log, or directly to a Committee member.
