Becoming a woodchopper is an exciting journey into one of Australia’s oldest and most respected rural sports. The best way to get started is by attending local woodchopping events, meeting experienced axemen and women, and learning the basics of safe axe and saw handling.
New competitors are encouraged to join the Queensland Axemen’s Association (QAA), participate in training or “come and try” days, and work alongside mentors who can help develop skills and confidence. With practice, dedication, and the right equipment, competitors can progress from novice events through to major woodchopping carnivals and championships across Queensland and Australia.
