Port Hedland Water Polo is affiliated with the Western Australia & Australian Water Polo Associations. Hedland Water Polo is one of the oldest sporting associations in Hedland. It is a great summer sport to keep cool & we encourage anyone of all ages to come down and have a go. There are always new players so you won’t be alone out on the field & with plenty of experienced players around you will know what you’re doing in no time
Who can play Water Polo?
ANYONE! We have male & female junior players start from 13-17 years within our Women’s competition & then we have women from 18+. The Men’s competition have 18+ with some male juniors starting to play from 16 depending how comfortable they are at playing. Just because we have a couple of young crocs in the comp don’t let that scare you we have many players of all ages including well into their 50’s.
It’s a sport that is easy on the body and perfect for the summer heat.
How do I learn the rules of the game?
After you register you will be assigned a team & your more experienced players will help train with you to teach you how to play the game. To learn the technical rules you can click here to download the International Waterpolo rules which are used by Australian Waterpolo in a downloadable document. You can read through this to help learn more about the rules. Don’t ever be afraid to ask any of our players they are all happy to help you learn as they were once your position also.

What is expected of me as a member of the Hedland Water Polo Association?
When you register you will be given terms of expected commitment & behavior as a member of Water Polo Australia, below are the commitments we require & expect of all members of our association. Remember you are apart of a team so the duties of committing time is shared around with your time.
* Games: Please arrive 15 minutes minimum prior so you can ensure you have enough time to warm up, if you aren’t on the score sheet ensure you are added manually & get your cap ready for the game
* BBQ & Bar duty: This is required by every team & every 7 weeks your team will rotate through. Roughly you should have it twice a season. The association provides the BBQ, Cooking utensils, Bar stock, Change & Bar Price lists. You're team is required to purchase food, set price for food, set up & pack up the BBQ & Bar. If you are working at the bar you are required to have your RSA. Please send a copy to the association secretary or upload it upon registration. Bar duty requires you to be at the pool at 5:30pm to assisit with the set up of the pools and to set up the bar.
* Set up: If you have the first game you are required to finish the set up of the pool. The pool should mostly be set up from the Flippaball kids, but may need some finishing on setting up the score board, shot clocks, getting the score sheet ready if required and setting the drinking area gates up.
* Pack up: If you have the last game of the night, you are required to pack the field, goals, balls, Score board, Score Table, Shot clock & drinking area gates up. We try our best to ensure that no team has this multiple weeks in a row & it is fairly rotated around all senior teams.
* Volunteering: To help the association grow & be able to buy new equipment there are times where we may run a BBQ or event to help raise money for our association. This means we will ask for your help if you are available. If the workload is shared around with everyone you shouldn't have to do this very often.
* Team Delegate: One person on your team will be the team delegate who is required to attend committee meetings, occasionally this person may not be able to attend. It is expected that others fill in their position as a proxy for the meeting. You are required to help relay communications & be involved in decision making for the association.
But most importantly HAVE FUN & SOCIALIZE!!!!
If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Committee members, their information can be found on the contact page.
See you poolside & Welcome to the Hedland Water Polo Association/ Hedland Crocs!
