About
The NSW Phoenix Youth Beach Program is a state program directed towards developing the talent of young athletes aspiring to represent their state at the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championship (AYBVC). The program consists of training led by NSW Phoenix coaches to develop youth athletes’ skills in preparation for the AYBVC. NSW Phoenix compete in the age group teams: U14, U15, U16, U17, and U18. Every trialling athlete, in each age group, will go through a multi-stage selection process to secure a spot in this state team program.
Selection Phase
The selection phase involves athletes attending camps and targeted competitions for NSW Phoenix coaches to evaluate their skills. This allows talent and potential to be identified, based on physical, technical and mental skills. These events will be used to determine the most promising athletes to be selected into the squad phase.
Squad Phase
During the squad phase, selected athletes will undertake centralised training with guidance from NSW Phoenix coaches. This training provides athletes with opportunities to enhance their skills and play with different partners in preparation for the AYBVC. Coaches will then determine which athletes will be nominated to form teams in each age group to compete together based on trainings and competition performance, thus progressing through to the next phase.
Team Phase
After the final selections have been made, during the Squad Phase, the selected travelling team athletes, and shadow players, will train and compete with their fellow age group teams leading up to AYBVC. NSW Phoenix teams, across all age groups, will travel to AYBVC to compete against state and territory representative teams at a national championship. This provides athletes with the opportunity to perform at the highest level of competition within Australia and showcase the skills they have developed.
