Who We Are
The NSW Volleyball Referees Association (NSWVRA) represents and supports volleyball referees across New South Wales.
We’re a community of officials who care about the game and want to be part of it at every level. From school matches and local comps through to state leagues and beyond, our referees play an important role in making sure the game runs smoothly and fairly.
We work closely with Volleyball NSW and Volleyball Australia to keep standards consistent across the board and to make sure referees are supported, recognised, and given opportunities to grow.
At the end of the day, referees are a big part of the volleyball experience. We’re there to keep things fair, but also to help create a positive and competitive environment for everyone on court.
What We Do
NSWVRA looks after referees from when they’re just starting out through to those aiming for higher levels.
We run education and accreditation programs that are simple to follow and recognised across the state and nationally. Whether you’re new or experienced, there’s always a next step.
We also handle referee appointments across a range of competitions. This includes schools, community matches, state leagues like SVL and PLV, and tournaments. The goal is to make sure every game has the right level of officiating.
Development is a big focus for us. Referees receive feedback, mentoring, and support so they can build confidence and improve over time. Our more experienced referees play a big part in guiding others coming through.
For those looking to take it further, there are clear pathways into higher level competitions. That can lead into national events through Volleyball Australia and, for some, even international opportunities.
Our Mission
We want to lift the standard of refereeing across New South Wales and build a strong, connected community along the way.
That means helping referees improve, giving them clear direction on how to progress, and creating an environment where people feel supported.
We’re here to grow the referee space, not just in numbers, but in quality and culture as well.
