GC Handicaps

In Tournaments and Carnivals, a Handicap game is played to allow players of different playing abilities to compete with more equal chances of winning by allowing extra strokes to be played, or in Advantage Handicap by requiring the stronger player to score more hoops to win.

Each player is allotted a handicap according to ability. The handicap range may extend from 20 (for the weakest players) to minus 6 (for the strongest players) based on a numerical scale, the index (which goes up, the more games you win). Index goes up, handicap goes down.

The golf croquet handicap process is in two parts.

The first part involves running six hoops starting at the normal hit off spot and recording the number of strokes needed to complete. This is repeated two more times and the total of all three is added together. This total is compared to a chart to help work out the handicap.

The second part involves several observations of the player that help determine that players knowledge of rules, tactics and ability to roquet the ball.  Both parts are considered in determining that player's handicap.

Each handicap has an index number.  Your index changes after each competition game. The winner’s index increases and the loser’s decreases by the same amount. Index changes are the same for 7, 13 & 19 point games.

Your handicap changes as soon as your index reaches a trigger point shown in the table below corresponding to a handicap different from your current handicap.

In handicap (and Advantage) singles games your handicap changes by +/- 10. In level singles games the index change is shown in the table below.

In Handicap Doubles games your handicap changes by +/-5.

In Level Doubles games the index change is shown in the table below.
