Club Update - August 2021

Published Sun 15 Aug 2021

Hello Members,

We hope you are all staying safe and well during this current lockdown. While this update doesn't provide a whole lot of good news, we feel it is prudent to keep all of our members updated, connected and engaged.

2021/2022 Club Committee

Prior to the most recent lockdown, the Club was lucky enough to be able to hold an in-person gathering at The Prince Alfred Hotel and hold our AGM. It was fantastic to see our members back together again in a social environment away from the pool, and hopefully we can have many more of these events in the future.
You can see our new committee here announced via this recent news post.

WPV Winter Competition Match Fees

The club appreciates that the Winter Season has not panned out as it was planned. We have missed training sessions, and most likely are going to miss matches due the on-going lockdowns.

When the Club has final confirmation on the total costs for the Winter Season, we will calculate the final Match Fees and will offer a refund or discount on future fees to cover any difference.

We would appreciate that all outstanding fees are paid promptly such that we can process refunds and credits quickly and efficiently when the time comes. Outstanding fees may limit your ability to participate in other WPV and WPA sanctioned events such as Canberra Cup or University competitions.

Canberra Cup

The 2021 edition of the Canberra Cup was due to be held over the weekend of the 17th until the 19th of September 2021. Due to the on-going issues associated with COVID-19 in NSW and now ACT, the organisers of the tournament have been forced to reschedule the tournament until October.

The new dates for the event will be 29-31st October 2021.

The existing EOI event will be updated with the new dates and times, and we encourage all those who are considering attending please express interest via the event to get the latest updates.

University Nationals

UniSport Australia along with the partner universities have made the decision that the 2021 Uni Nationals will not go ahead at the end of September on the Gold Coast as planned.

The University of Melbourne is supportive of this decision and understanding given the current scenario of pandemic lockdowns across the country and risk to athletes travelling including the costs associated with the event. UniSport is investigating opportunities to hold regional or state based competitions which may alleviate some of the concerns associated with travelling, quarantine and lockdowns. You can read more about UniSport’s decision here.

We understand and value the importance of giving our University athletes an opportunity to represent the University at the highest possible level as a student based team. MUPolo have already been in discussion with both MUSport and WPV to facilitate a “Victorian University Cup” tournament when restrictions permit. Those who had expressed interest in Nationals will be contacted about these opportunities.

Stay safe and keep tuned into our social media channels (Instagram and Facebook) for some ideas to keep you fit and healthy (physically and mentally) during lockdown.
