President Address July 2023

Published Fri 07 Jul 2023

To Maccabi Basketball friends and family,

It’s great to be able to address you at such a successful point in time for the club.

With members growing, teams succeeding and basketball booming around the Jewish community, it’s an exciting time to be a part of this club. We are halfway into the 2023 basketball calendar and it’s hard to picture a better scenario for our basketball club.

I’d like to start by congratulating our junior teams on an abundance of success that has been achieved in recent months. Whilst grand final victories are far from the only determinant of success on the basketball court, they provide fantastic memories for players, parents and coaches alike to look back upon and celebrate. Earlier in the year we were lucky enough to experience one of the club’s most successful days to date, with 5 teams competing across the CSBA grand final weekend. I was lucky enough to be coaching in one of them for the U14 Warriors, who alongside the U14 Knights, U16 Cavs and U16 Hornets secured their respective titles on grand final day.

More recently we were granted with even more success on EBL grand final day, as our U12 Jazz and U14 Lynx girls teams, alongside the U12 Celtics and U14 Raptors boys took home gold. It’s great to see the Maccabi community continuing to excel across the basketball realm with plenty of future success to come.

Speaking of our girls teams, I’d like to proudly acknowledge the effort the club has made in recent years to continue increasing female participation in the junior ranks of Maccabi basketball. Only 2 years ago at the start of 2021 we fielded just 1 girls team across the club, a stark contrast to today as we host 9 girls teams and a further 4 mixed teams from the U8’s, all the way to the U16’s. We hope to continue to increase female participation across our club long into the future.

Another exciting initiative on the cards at Maccabi Basketball is our high-performance training sessions, which have been extended to accommodate the U12B, U16B and U16G age groups for term 3. These sessions are run by professional trainers who have worked in the NBA global academy to develop skills such as strength, power, speed and agility. It’s a program we are proud to offer to help our junior players excel in areas critical to basketball performance, which we have received plenty of positive feedback on in the past.

Finally, it’d be remiss of me not to mention our sponsors who keep this great club moving forward. Thank you to Century 21 – Feller & Taylor, Chargrill Charlie’s, Haben Property Fund, Laugh & Learn and Supa Centa Moore Park. I’m excited to announce all 5 sponsors are signing on for 2024, leaving the club in a great position looking towards the future.

Looking forward to a successful second half of 2023!

Kind regards,

Brad Rosen – Maccabi Basketball President
