President Address - September 2023

Published Thu 14 Sep 2023

To Maccabi Basketball friends and family,

I hope you’re all enjoying another great term of basketball! Maccabi Basketball continues to boom on and off the court and it’s great to see so many members of our community enjoying our great sport.

It’s always great to deliver the news of our recent on court success, highlighted by our U18 Mavericks who took out the U18 Division 3 CSBA competition, coached by PJ. I’d also like to shoutout to my U14 Warriors, the U16 Kings and U16 Rockets who made the semi-finals of their respective CSBA competitions.

There’s plenty happening around the club at the moment, with multiple events and services for the community to get behind.

Firstly, our school holiday camp will be running again at the end of this month, for 3 days on September 26, 27 and 28. We’ve received great feedback from these camps in the past and are hoping to continue to provide this service for our members. We’re excited to be using the Emanuel School facilities for the first time, which will allow us to run the camp rain, hail or shine. Tickets can be purchased for 1, 2 or 3 days via https://www.revolutionise.com.au/mnswbasketball/events/202868/

Further, the club is hosting a private screening of the recently released documentary ‘Rose Gold’, a story of the Australian Boomers and their road to their first international basketball medal. The doco covers the long journey and many failures the team experienced along the way, including the growth of Australian basketball in the process. The screening is at Event Cinemas Bondi Junction, on the Labour Day public holiday (October 2) at 3:30pm. Tickets are $20 for children, $25 for adults, and can be purchased via https://www.revolutionise.com.au/mnswbasketball/events/203145/

An exciting initiative the club has progressed with this term are the high-performance sessions, a weekly training on top of our standard basketball session that aims to assist our players with their athleticism. The sessions are led by physio Leroy Lobo and trainer An Nguyen, both of whom have experience training professional athletes across the NBA, NBL and AFL. The sessions are designed to help athletes become faster, stronger, more agile and more powerful and are currently being run for our U12 and U16 boys age groups. They are going to continue into term 4 – for any enquiries reach out to matt@maccabibasketballnsw.com

Finally, I’d like to thank our 5 major sponsors for their continued support of our club. These ongoing initiatives are made possible by their generosity, in addition to our daily operations. Thank you to Century 21 – Feller & Taylor, Chargrill Charlie’s, Haben Property Fund, Laugh & Learn and Supa Centa Moore Park. I’m excited to announce all 5 sponsors are signing on for 2024, leaving the club in a great position looking towards the future.

Here's to a great finish to 2023.

Kind Regards,

Brad Rosen – Maccabi Basketball President
