President Address- November 2022

Published Thu 10 Nov 2022

Dear Maccabi Basketball friends and families,

It’s great to be able to address you all after a great start to our final term of basketball for the year, with continued growth in members, coaches, and teams across the association. At the moment we are up to over 450 members across the junior and senior programs, including a coaching staff of 15.

Awards Night

With the end of the year fast approaching, it’s with a great pleasure that I’m able to invite everyone to our end of year awards night, which is scheduled for December 11th at Bondi Pavilion’s High Tide Room, from 5pm. We’ve made a conscious effort to put on a great event for our members at this year’s awards night, which will include an abundance of giveaways, awards, and prizes for all attendees. We don’t want a single kid to go home from the day empty handed.

You can register for free for the event now via https://www.revolutionise.com.au/mnswbasketball/events/163587/ which will put you into the draw for a free NBA certified jersey and pair of NBA shoes, generously donated by our uniform partner the Throwback store.

Uniform Donations

Another proud achievement of the club was our ability to collaborate with ‘The Angel Network’, to donate over 100 repurposed uniforms to Burundi in Africa. The uniforms were sent to children in impoverished communities across Burundi, which will be used as clothing for sports related activities. We are grateful to our members for donating, and glad we were able to find a great cause for so many second-hand basketball uniforms.

Elite Trainers Program

An exciting club initiative that began this term was our Elite Trainers program, a selective training group consisting of highly skilled players across our U12 teams. The program is being held at Marcellin College, who have a great venue that we hope will be of great benefit for the club in the future. The program is aimed at accelerating the competitiveness of Maccabi Basketball teams on the court, with a current emphasis on not just skill-based training but also fitness and physical wellbeing.

Social Basketball

Further, it’s great to be able to see the return of our social comp, a competition for 18-35 year old’s that aims to engage Jewish youth in a fun, competitive setting. With growing demand for basketball across Sydney and especially the Jewish community, the social comp facilitates a platform for community members to compete against each other on the court, in an active environment. It is already in its second edition after a great inaugural season earlier this year.

In summation, I’d like to thank our members for their continuous support of our club and hope to be able to continue to deliver positive news.

Finally, I’d like to thank our 5 major sponsors Century 21 Feller & Taylor, Chargrill Charlies, Haben, Learn and Laugh and Moore Park Supa Centa for their continued support and generosity.

All the best,

Brad Rosen – Maccabi Basketball President
