Longreach Athletic Club (LAC) was established in 1984 and is affiliated with Athletics North Queensland (ANQ), based in Townsville.

Who can join?

The minimum age for competing athletes is 4 years old. There is no maximum age limit. Current LAC participating athletes range in age from 4 to 104. Athletes compete at their age as of 31st December 2024 – please bring along a birth certificate for first-time registrations.

What activities are offered?

Our events comprise of sprints, middle and long distance running, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, javelin and hammer. A Club meet (held fortnightly) comprises of three track events and three field events for each age group.

Training Days: We have qualified coaches to assist athletes in the correct techniques & rules of each event.

Littlies Groups -> Monday & Wednesday 4:00pm - 4:45pm

Intermediate/Seniors Groups - > Monday, Wednesday & Friday - 5:00pm to 6:15pm 

Where do we meet?

The LAC meets are held at our clubhouse and track located on Jabiru Street in the Longreach High School grounds, opposite the Longreach Hospital.

Members of all ages and skill levels are also encouraged to compete at carnivals throughout the season, particularly our own Outback Sunset Carnival in August. Popular events are also held in Townsville, Rockhampton, Bowen, Emerald & Mackay.

Is there a uniform?

Club shirts, singlets, caps and hats are available for purchase from the Club canteen. Club shirts and singlets are priced between $35 and $45 and must be worn at all competitions. Club hats/caps are $20...with new truckers caps available for $30.
