La Trobe’s sporting elite to be honoured at the 2022 Blues Sport Awards

Published Fri 02 Sep 2022

After a three-year hiatus, the showcase sport event on the La Trobe University calendar will once again make its return with a prestigious gala event at Ikon Park, home of our industry partners, the Carlton Football Club, on Wednesday 9 November.

La Trobe University has a proud history of excellence in performance, participation and contribution to sport. Before going into hiatus in 2019, the University had held the annual Blues Sport Awards dinner every year since 2005 to celebrate and recognise performance of the highest calibre by its student athletes. In addition, the Blues Sport Awards provide the opportunity to acknowledge exemplary service to sport at the University by our affiliated clubs, teams and individuals.

This year, with events returning to campus after consecutive years impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, La Trobe University is pleased to invite students, staff, alumni, club members, friends of La Trobe and VIP guests to celebrate the return of sport at the Blues Sport Awards.

Why the name 'Blues Awards'?

Following the tradition of Oxford and Cambridge, Blues Awards are a prestigious and valued symbol of sporting excellence in universities. At La Trobe, the Blues Sport Awards recognise the outstanding sporting performances of our elite student athletes.

Nine major award categories will be presented on the night, ranging from the celebration of the University’s elite athletes with the prestigious University BlueUniversity Half-Blue, Academic Excellence and Sports People of the Year Awards, through to recognising the outstanding La Trobe representative sport achievements in Coach of the Year, Team La Trobe Athletes of the Year and Team La Trobe Team of the Year and also the awarding of community sport-based honours with the Sport Club of the Year and Outstanding Service to Sport at La Trobe University.

La Trobe University would like to advise that nominations for the following awards are now open and will close on Friday 7 October at 5:00pm.
