La Trobe University is committed to providing support to elite athletes who strive for success in both their academic and sporting pursuits.

As part of this commitment, we offer ATAR adjustments and conditional acceptance into the La Trobe Elite Athlete Program for eligible Year 12 students competing at a minimum national level of sporting competition.

General guidelines and minimum eligibility criteria for each offering is outlined below. Please refer to the website for full eligibility details and check that your level of representation and competition meets the criteria prior to applying for an ATAR Adjustment and/or LEAP Conditional Acceptance.

ATAR Adjustment:

If your elite sporting commitments have impacted your Year 12 studies, you may be eligible to receive an ATAR adjustment of up to five (5) aggregate points when applying to study an undergraduate course at La Trobe University.

To apply for an ATAR adjustment, students must meet the below eligibility criteria:

• Completing Year 12 in 2026 at an Australian school
• Applying for entry into a La Trobe undergraduate course via VTAC
• Competing at a minimum national level of sporting competition during Year 12 in an event that is endorsed by the relevant State or National Sporting Organisation (S/NSO)
• Can provide supporting documentation from S/NSO and school

It is important that your supporting documentation contains detailed information that clearly demonstrates the impact of your elite sporting commitments during your Year 12 studies. Insufficient information may impact the outcome of your application.

S/NSO:

• Provided by a suitable staff member, such as, Head Coach or Operations Manager. Please note, supporting documentation provided by your local sporting club is not accepted.
• Include official organisation logo or letterhead
• Signed and dated
• Details of sporting commitments during 2026
• Details of sporting commitments during 2027**

School:

• Provided by a suitable staff member, such as, Principal or Year 12 Coordinator
• Include official organisation logo or letterhead

• Confirms enrolment status
• Details of schooling events impacted by sporting commitments during 2026

Elite Athlete Program Conditional Acceptance:

The La Trobe Elite Athlete Program (LEAP) is designed to support students to effectively balance their academic and sporting commitments. If you are expecting to be competing at a national or international level of competition during 2027 you may be eligible for conditional acceptance into LEAP before receiving an offer to study at the university.

The supporting documentation provided for your ATAR Adjustment application will also be assessed to determine your eligibility for conditional acceptance to LEAP.

Students who receive conditional acceptance will still be required to formally apply to LEAP and meet eligibility requirements upon accepting an offer to study at La Trobe in 2027.

Ineligibility for conditional acceptance does not impact eligibility to receive an ATAR Adjustment. Students who do not receive conditional acceptance into LEAP can still apply to the program if they are to study at La Trobe in 2027.
