Elite Athlete Support Fund

Background

The La Trobe Elite Athlete Program supports the University’s vision to be the ‘University of Choice for Sport’ and fulfils our obligation as a member of the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) National Network; a program established by the Australian Sports Commission.

The La Trobe Elite Athlete Support Fund (EASF) has been established to support student athletes in pursuit of their sporting endeavours, whilst undertaking tertiary study. Through the EASF, currently enrolled students who are members of the Elite Athlete Program can access a Travel Subsidy and Equipment Subsidy to assist with expenses associated with eligible sporting competitions.

Students can apply for the Elite Athlete Support Fund via Revolutionise at any point during the year. All funding will be paid as a reimbursement upon submission of proof of purchase and following the completion of competition or aquisition of equipment.

Travel Subsidy Details

Students who are members of the Elite Athlete Program can receive funding for travel costs associated with competing in an event that is endorsed by the relevant State or National Sporting Organisation. Students may receive funding up to $2000 for national representation in an international competition, with tiered funding beneath this reflective of the level, and location of competition. In recognition of the unique challenges of student athletes who are required to reside interstate to pursue their elite sporting endeavours amidst their studies, we have broadened the Travel Subsidy guidelines and eligibility to provide up to $500 to support these students to attend required on-campus assessments.

Applicants may only receive the travel subsidy once per calendar year, except for when a student athlete is competing at an international FISU World University Games or Championship event in that same year. In this instance, students will be eligible for funding up to $2000 for the FISU event, in addition to the ‘standard’ travel subsidy.

Equipment Subsidy Details

The Equipment Subsidy provides eligible athletes with a one-off payment up to $100 to facilitate the acquisition of essential equipment crucial to their training and performance in their respective sports. Introduced in 2024, the Equipment Subsidy aims to broaden the scope of financial support offered by the Elite Athlete Program, and ensure that every eligible athlete has access to the tools necessary to enhance their training and competitive edge.

Guidelines & Eligibility
