This free training / information session is targeted at:
- Members of Lake Cootharaba SC who are already volunteering;
- Members of Lake Cootharaba SC who haven't volunteered in the past but would like to start; and
- Anyone who is not a club member but would like to get involved in a volunteering capacity at our sailing club.
The aim of this half day session is to provide attendees with the following:
- General information about the wide range of volunteer roles that are available;
- The availability and location of documentation that will assist volunteers to undertake the various roles (e.g. policy and procedures, role descriptions, checklists, etc.); and
- Shore based training on a selection of these roles.
The following topics will be covered:
- Introduction to volunteering at LCSC. A brief overview of each of the volunteer roles.
- Availability of formal training for volunteers. What courses (online and face to face) do we run to upskill volunteers? What courses are available via other clubs and/or Australian Sailing. Information about Australia wide recognition of training received and qualifications gained.
- What is the club policy in regard to developing the skills of volunteers and subsidizing course fees?
- Availability of documentation. What documentation exists to help volunteers and where can it be found?
- What skills, experience and/or qualifications do volunteers need for the various roles?
- Using the volunteer portal.
The following roles will be covered in more detail:
- Start boat operations
- Base Duty (Beachmaster)
- Radio Communications (the basics, general protocols, LCSC specifics).
- Bar duties
- Course Setting Theory (this will be complemented by on-water practical training at a later stage - see below)
NOTE:
On water training is also being scheduled for those wishing to volunteer on rescue boats. This training is being delivered in three separate one day courses (separate registrations required) as follows:
- Powerboat handling course - this is an official Australian Sailing course that will be run by an accredited instructor;
- Safety Boat Operator course – as per 1. above; and
- Operating a Safety Boat on Lake Cootharaba - this a customised course being run by experienced club members and covering some of the techniques that are particularly relevant to our location (e.g. course setting, operating a rescue boat on a shallow lake, etc.)
