Historic races and results

The first Goolwa Milang run by the GRYC dates to December 1969 although Bill Ballard and Bill Appleby were racing each other each year from 1966, organising the event from the Corio Hotel.

First over the line in that '69 race was Edith crewed by Bill Ballard, Geoff Byrnes, George Tilley and Doug Armfield. Also competing were Nanieya and Waterwitch. Chips Barclay followed the race in Kestrel, and afterwards at the Pier Hotel bought Edith.

During the era of the plastic fantastics those original river rats took their old dames and formed the Vintage Boats Association in 1981 and are still competing separately as the Goolwa Vintage Boats Club Inc. Click here for details.
