Parent Online Safety Sessions

Your school will be provided a link on registration for an event to attend. Registration is required to take part in the sessions.

Parents and spectators are to ensure the abide by QUT conditions for being on campus and as a friendly reminder to identify themselves to their school coordinators as QUT staff will challenge unknown person as the arena’s, theatre and production studio are not for public access.

The Kindler Theatre P Block P421 will be utilised for viewing on competition days with ample seating.

The Kindler Theatre is located at The Cube, or you can view online at Twitch QUT_Esports - Twitch.

QUT Safety on campus

QUT has 24-hour security and full-time security on-site.

The QUT security mobile app SafeZone can be download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to use while on campus to contact QUT Security.

QUT operates within the QUT Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy.

QUT Sport takes a harm minimisation and leadership approach in line the eSafety Commissioner’s best practice online safety educational framework by embedding process in tournament practise and across risk management.

All our staff complete inductions and possess current Blue Cards which are validated before at the start of each competition day.

In addition, our staff to receive annual training including the requirement to complete Play by the Rules education modules (Child Protection, Integrity and Ethics in Sport, Officiating Sports, Harassment and Discrimination).

QUT Sport is a member of Pride in Sport Australia, and our arena and programs promote inclusivity and diversity for all participants.

FAQs

Q: Does a school representative (teacher) need to be present? 

A: Yes, we require all attending schools to have a staff member to be present for the duration of the competition day. School Esport Coordinators (teachers) are a vital part of developing quality esports opportunity in schools for sport and education. We also ask you intervene in the event of disruptive behaviour.

 

Q: Do I need to use Discord?

A: No, Discord is not required to play as we play on campus together, live, in an arena style format.

 

Q: Students are allowed to live stream?

A: Yes and no.

Yes, if parental and school consent is obtained in writing prior to attending the competition day. Students will also be under guidance from QUT Sport staff at all times. The live stream is delayed and moderated by students under the direction of QUT Sport staff to learn best practice. Each live stream is to start with an online safety and esports wellbeing topic.

No, if parent or school consent has not been received by QUT Sport or students do not abide by player agreements (terms and conditions) to be of good behaviour or follow with the Essence of Australian Sport – Fairness, Respect, Responsibility and Safety.

 

Q: Will controllers be provided for students?

A: No, while we do have a limited number of controllers, students will be required to bring their own and for some tournaments maybe restricted to mouse and keyboard only. Please ensure that if a controller is brought along for the day that it is charged, and a long cable (1.5 metre cable) bought along as batteries aren’t available.

 

Q: Does QUT provides game accounts to students?

A: No, please ensure that students attend know their current password and can access any multifactor authentication steps to validate their access on campus.

 

Q: Any student account/usernames are allowed?

A: No, Usernames must be community appropriate and abide by QUT Code of Conduct, School Code of Conduct, IP holder Code of Conduct, terms and conditions or requirements for tournaments. Accounts deemed inappropriate by QUT Staff will not be allowed to play. It is not QUT’s responsibility to change the account to an appropriate name. Any cost incurred will be at the student’s expense. Note League of Legends may require a cost to change name.
