Player Expectations

 

Q: Can I just play lol? This is too complex!

A: To put it simply, yes, you can. Make sure your week's roster is locked in on OLI Discord by Friday, and your team is checked-in on time time. Be ready in your lobby with the correct account for your match's Prodraft start. After that, it's time to play, watch games, follow the ladders, and have fun! Some of you have been with us from the beginning. It's been a long road. We have been listening to your feedback and working to ensure a better product for the community. In 2024 we are continuing that journey to offer development for athletes and it is very exciting.  

Draws and Match Times

Q: When will the draw be out? 

A: In 2024 the draw will be completed within 3 days on close of registration. All match times in 2024 are final. Participants should include any requests at the time of their registration submission. However, while will try to help fulfilling such requests may not be possible. Team Managers or Representatives register your teams as soon as possible! Contact esports@qut.edu.au

Q: Why are match times and draw so strict in 2024? 

A: This ensures fairness and integrity within the competition, fostering a respectful environment for all involved. By allowing for real-time posting of results on competition days, it maintains the immediacy and relevance of the competition's proceedings. Additionally, while recognizing that unexpected circumstances can occur outside of the sporting context, these protocols help to minimize disruptions and maintain the focus on the competitive spirit and shared goals of the participants.

Q: What is the tiebreaker week?   

A: All tie breakers for Division 1, Division 2, Women’s and ODT will be played during this week. All teams are to consider that their tie break match or matches will be played on their allocated weekday namely Division 1 and Division 2 on Tuesday, Women’s on Wednesday and ODT on Thursday. Teams are responsible for their roster to be available for their match times.

Player Information

Q: Why has my Riot ID been refused to play?

A: This is a university-based competition held to a high standard for intervarsity sport. Inappropriate screen names will not be allowed. Any changes are at the player’s expense.

 

In 2024 OLI will be following similar rules to College League of Legends and abide by Global Esports Code of Conduct. These restrictions will be applied solely at the discretion of season officials (Tournament Administration).

 

Riot ID must not contain:

- vulgarities or obscenities;

- LoL champion derivatives or other similar character names; and

- or derivatives of products or services that may create confusion.

Q: I am on the roster or have played a game for ODT, am I allowed to play in intervarsity? 

A: Yes and No.

  • No, if you are on the starting roster for ODT you will be considered to play at that level. You cannot be on the starting roster for both.
  • No, If you have played more than 2 games from being promoted from Division 1 you will be considered part of the ODT pool. Intervarsity plays on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while ODT plays on Thursdays. The following season you may register for an OLI team.
  • Yes, if you are called up to play and play 1 game up you are allowed to return to your Division 1. However ODT teams are to use their subtitutes first before going to Division 1.

Q: Can I play in both Division 1 and 2?

A: No, if you are on the roster for Division 1 you are not allowed to play in Division 2. However, Division 2 players may play up a grade for no more than 2 games before being considered part of that Division. If a player has more than 2 matches in Division 1 they will be considered a part of Division 1 player pool.

Q: I am in the Women’s competition can I play in Division 1 or Division 2?

A: Yes, you can. However, if you play more than two games you will be considered part of that Division Pool. Note you can not play down a level. if your are on a teams Starting roster you will be considered part of that Division. 

Q: Universities may have more than one team in each Division and a Division 3?

A: Yes, Universities may submit more than one team. Universities with more than one campus may have campus based teams.  Universities may have more than one team in the same Division. However, seeding may determine which division a team plays in. Division 1 and Division 2 are both competitive leagues. The competition will scale and possible have a Division 3 for developing players.

Q: I have a current LCO contract listed on the Globale Contract Database. Am I allowed to play for my university in OLI?

A: No. LCO and LCO Academies in the ODT will not be able to play. Players who appear on the Global Contract Database will not be able to play. Players using alternate account to play will be penalised, removed from play and reported to their LCO team.

Q:I am a LCO substitute player or ODT Substitute Player and I haven't played a game in the LCO / ODT at all and the LCO / ODT seasons have finished. However I am on the Global Contract Database. Am I allowed to play for my university in OLI?
A: You need to be released from your team in writing and for it to be approved by LCO Team Manager. Without admin receiving these approvals in writing from your Team Manager and LCO Manager you will not be allowed to play. A verbal agreement is not sufficient.  Further you must also complete all parts of player registrations and conditions for OLI (i.e. current enrolled student). 

Q: I am subject to an Account Ban; I have been penalised or subject to a Sportsmanship event.

A: Players may be subject to warnings or loss of eligibility at any point during the season. Players receives a permaban during the season, they are no longer eligible for the rest of the season. This rule applies to all accounts owned by a player, not just their registered account. Officials have the right to include or discount account bans on a case-by-case basis. 

 

Players should ensure that they read their Participant Agreements, Ruleset and Discord rules and Global Esports Code of Conduct. These will be enforced in 2024. Judgements are made as part of sport; however, you need to respect other players, teams, officials and confidentiality. Officials at all times, may act with the necessary authority to preserve the best interests of the Season. This power is not constrained by lack of specific language in rulesets. Officials may use any form of punitive actions at their disposal against any entity whose conduct is not within the confines of the best interests of the Competition. We have worked hard to ensure that there is an effective appeal, question and due process.

 

Team Information

Q: How competitive is Division 1?  

A: OLI Division 1 is the highest level of competition and representative university sport. ODT is the nest step.  Division 1 is your universities’ most competitive teams. You should ensure than you have a suitable and reliable roster for play. Also seeding and pool allocation will take effect on your team placement. If you need further information, please contact esports@qut.edu.au

 

Q: Are more than 1 university teams allowed to register in each divsion?

A: Yes, seeding will determine which division and pool your team is allocated in. A division may have multiple pools which compete against each other before an elimination stage. We are prepared to scale the competition to commodate teams.

 

Q: Are different campuses allowed their own team?

A: Yes, while campuses are usually identified by an overriding University, OLI Tournament Administration may treat individual campuses as separate and unique institutions. This means that they are each allowed to enter their own unique LoL team. You should consult your universities sport department for assistance and for further information please submit your request to tournament admin at esports@qut.edu.au. Division 2 is still competitive.

 

Q: One of my players has dropped out can I get a sub? 

A: Yes, but you must notify Tournament Administration as soon as possible as player lists must be made available the Friday before the competition. The player agreement must be signed, and student confirmation obtained prior to playing. No exceptions.  You may have a roster up to 7 players those players are to be utilised first. You will receive one (1) Pick Phase 2 penalty for late submission (Friday ) and an additional one (1) received and within 24 hours an additional Phase 1 ban.

Q: I need an emergency sub what happens? 

A: You must still complete registration process with correct op.gg, player agreement must be signed, and student confirmation prior to playing. You will receive two (2) Ban Phase 1 penalties.  Please use your substitutes.

Q: How are complaints handled? 

A: In sports, decision-making can be categorized into two main types: operational decisions made during the day-to-day activities, and more intricate issues that require in-depth deliberation. We have adopted the Global Esports Code of Conduct. Due process must be followed. For complex matters, RIOT Games may be consulted with META Esports. Nevertheless, for OLI preliminary resolutions will be resolved through a quorum comprising representatives from two different teams. Regadless of result of quorum matters following due process takes time and may go into post season. Please see the rule set and penalties index. Note that 2023 matters are ongoing.
