Competitive Ruling 1 2024

ODT Competitive Ruling: Team UQ and Division 1 Player Selection

University of Queensland (UQ) Oceanic Development Tournament (ODT) Team is unable to field their ODT team due to 2 team players returning to China.

Upon thorough consideration, the ODT Tournament Administration has made a specific ruling regarding player selection and team composition for Team UQ. In an effort to maintain the integrity of the competition and provide a clear path forward, the following competitive ruling has been established:

Team UQ will be permitted to select and enlist more than one player from Division 1 into their team roster for the current season of ODT play. This allowance is granted with acknowledgment of the team's unique circumstances and in recognition of their commitment to the competitive success and development within the ODT framework.

However, this ruling comes with significant stipulations:

  1. As a result of augmenting their roster with additional Division 1 players, Team UQ will forfeit their standing within the ODT. At the conclusion of the current season, they will be automatically relegated to Division 1 for Season 2.
  2. Further to this consequence, the process of relegation and promotion will be adjusted as follows:
    • In the upcoming promotional round, the highest-seeded team from the promotional and relegation tournament will automatically advance to the next season within the ODT, without the need for qualification match.
    • The second highest-seeded team from Division 1 will engage in a decisive match against QUT to vie for the remaining open position in the ODT.
    • Should the UQ ODT be unable to maintain a valid roster for ODT in a single week, they will regrettably be disqualified. ODT matches already played against Team UQ will not contribute to the overall points tally of any team in ODT.
    • In alignment with our ongoing commitment to ensure competitive gameplay and roster flexibility, we remind ODT teams that the existing ruleset permits them to seek substitute players from Intervarsity teams. This provision is designed to allow Intervarsity players the opportunity to participate in up to two matches before they become officially roster-locked to a particular team. All teams must have their rosters finalized and submitted by Sunday at 5pm each week.

It is our aim to uphold a fair and challenging competitive environment that enables teams and players to showcase their skills and strategy within the scope of the stated regulations. We trust that all teams will meet these standards with professionalism and enthusiasm for the game.

This ruling is final and will be applied immediately. While we recognize the implications it bears on the affected teams, it is rendered with the intent to preserve the competitive spirit and order of the tournament.

We thank you for your attention to this matter and wish all teams the best in their future competitions.

Respectfully,

The OLI ODT Tournament Administration
