The University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) Women’s Water Polo Team has proudly finished 8th at UniNationals, earning a place among the top teams in Australia after a week of intense and competitive play.

The result highlights the strength and determination of the players, who represented both their university and the broader Sunshine Coast water polo community with pride.

This year, Buderim Water Polo worked closely with UniSC to help facilitate the team’s preparation, training, and fundraising. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to providing ongoing pathways for women in water polo beyond the junior level — connecting student-athletes to opportunities that keep them in the game.

Team Leader (and BWP Coach) Madi Kirkwood said sport continues to play an essential role in student life and athlete development. “Sport is such a big part of uni life — it keeps us connected, motivated, and in the game beyond juniors,” Madi said. “Opportunities like UniNationals let us keep growing as athletes and teammates, and the support from the Sunshine Coast has made it all possible. Big shout-out to Buderim Water Polo and Kawana Aquatic Centre.”

Coach Sophia Zamoyski said the event was about more than results — it was about growth, connection, and continuing development. “UniNationals isn’t just about competition — it’s about giving these women a chance to keep developing in their sport and themselves,” Sophia said.
“Beyond juniors, pathways like this are so important, and with local support we can keep players connected, improving, and striving for more.”
