The 2024 Queensland Junior Country Championships, held from 5–7 December on the Gold Coast, delivered three days of high-level competition, perfect weather, and an impressive showcase of rising regional talent. This year, Breakers Water Polo made their mark across the tournament, completing a clean sweep of the girls’ divisions and securing podium finishes in nearly every age group.
A Championship Weekend for the Breakers
U12 Mixed — Undefeated Champions
The Breakers U12 Mixed team set the tone early, going undefeated through the pool rounds before sealing the title with a composed 7–4 win over Saints in the final. The group showed maturity beyond their years, controlling the match from start to finish.
U14 Girls — Commanding Gold Medal Performance
In another undefeated run, the U14 Girls powered to a convincing 10–3 victory over Saints to claim the championship. Their defensive pressure and quick transitions set them apart across the entire weekend.
U16 Girls — A Last-Minute Thriller
The U16 Girls delivered one of the most exciting matches of the championships, edging out Saints 8–7 in a nail-biting final. It was a true team performance, with cool heads under pressure securing the gold.
U19 Girls — Undefeated to the Grand Final and All the Way to Gold
The U19 Girls completed an undefeated campaign, taking the title with a strong and disciplined performance against hometown favourites, Gold Coast. Structure, teamwork, and composure defined their run.
U16 Boys — Bronze Medallists
The U16 Boys fought hard throughout the tournament and earned a well-deserved bronze medal following a competitive finals series.
U19 Boys — Silver in a Composite Team Effort
Representing a combined Breakers–Noosa side, the U19 Boys pushed Gold Coast to the wire in a tightly contested final, ultimately taking home silver. Their cohesion as a composite team was a highlight.
U14 Boys — Breakers Representing Noosa Claim Bronze
Breakers athletes Kobi, Cooper, and Harvey represented Noosa in the U14 Boys division, contributing strongly to the team’s bronze-medal finish.
Athletes From Across the State United Under Breakers Colours
Breakers showcased impressive depth once again, with players from Toowoomba, Townsville, and Noosa joining their squads. The blend of regional athletes highlighted both the strength of country water polo and the collaborative relationships between clubs.
Live Stats Delivered for the First Time
In partnership with Water Polo Queensland, 6-8 Sports delivered live statistics throughout the event — a first for the Junior Country Championships. The data elevated the spectator experience and highlighted several standout Breakers performances:
