A New Era Begins – Buderim Water Polo Becomes Breakers Water Polo

Published Tue 18 Nov 2025

After four years of growth, grit, and community spirit, Buderim Water Polo has officially incorporated and will move forward under our new name: Breakers Water Polo.

This moment has been a long time in the making. What began as a small group of players at our first sanctioned event – the 2021 Queensland Junior Country Championships – has grown into a confident, competitive, and values-driven club. Those original U12 athletes are now strong representatives of their region, their state, and in some cases, their country.

Why Incorporation Matters

Until now, the club has operated as an affiliated program under Water Polo Queensland. Incorporation marks a major milestone—it means the club is now community-owned, member-led and positioned for long-term sustainability. It gives our families, players, and volunteers the opportunity to shape the future of the club directly.

An interim committee is now in place for our first year as Breakers Water Polo and will guide the transition to a fully elected, parent-led committee at our first AGM in July 2026.

What Makes Us “Breakers”

One thing that hasn’t changed—our identity.

No scoreboard will ever measure what matters most to us: effort, culture, resilience, and how we treat each other. Our athletes take pride in representing this club, and no team is ever going to “out culture” us. That’s the Breakers DNA.

Where We’re Headed

We’re proud to announce that our first official appearance as Breakers Water Polo will be at the Queensland Junior Country Championships—taking us back to where our story first began. It is both symbolic and exciting to launch our new identity at the event that helped define us.

Our vision moving forward is simple but ambitious:
To build a lasting legacy that outlives any single team, age group, coach, or committee.

We want every member to feel genuine ownership of this club. Over the next 12 months, athletes, parents, and supporters will have opportunities to contribute to:

  • The Breakers brand and visual identity

  • Strategic planning and club governance

  • Program and pathway development

  • Culture and community initiatives

This is your club, and your voice will help shape what comes next.

Celebrating Our Pathways

We’re incredibly proud of the opportunities our players have earned—not just on the Sunshine Coast, but beyond it. Breakers athletes have gone on to represent Queensland, Australia, UniSC, and US college programs, with more members currently pursuing scholarship pathways in the States. Others proudly wear the colours of their schools and local representative teams. These achievements reflect the strength of our environment, and reinforce the value of offering ambition and opportunity right here at home.

The Next Chapter

The name may be new, but the heart of the club remains exactly the same—community-driven, athlete-centred, and united by a love for water polo.

Breakers Water Polo is now officially here.
And this is only the beginning.
