The Monarhk SC Series has officially been recognised as the 2025 Sunshine Coast Sports – Sports Event of the Year, celebrating its impact on youth sport, community connection, and regional development.

Held from Friday 11 – Sunday 13 July 2025 at the Nambour Aquatic Centre, the SC Series has quickly become a standout fixture on the regional water polo calendar. What began as a local development initiative has evolved into an inclusive, high-quality winter tournament attracting clubs from across Queensland — and even international visitors.

A Regional Event with Statewide and International Reach

Now in its second year, the SC Series brought together young athletes from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and visiting teams from North Harbour Water Polo Club (New Zealand). More than 400 combined athletes, coaches, officials and families took part, creating a vibrant, energetic atmosphere that celebrated the best of youth sport.

By offering elite-standard competition close to home, the SC Series helps remove the financial and travel barriers often associated with high-level sport. Athletes in the 14&U and 16&U divisions gained access to a structured, professional tournaments without the need for weekly travel to Brisbane — strengthening regional pathways and supporting player development.

Proudly Volunteer-Run and Community-Led

The series is proudly delivered by Breakers Water Polo, with the support of dedicated volunteers who ensure the event runs to a professional standard. Sanctioned by Water Polo Queensland (WPQ), the SC Series showcases what committed clubs, coaches, and families can achieve when they come together with a shared focus on athlete development.

The tournament’s volunteer-driven model keeps the event accessible and affordable, with all proceeds reinvested back into the community to continue strengthening regional pathways in the sport.

Boosting Local Sport and the Local Economy

Beyond the competition, the SC Series generated meaningful economic benefits for the Sunshine Coast. Interstate and international visitors provided a welcome boost to local tourism, hospitality, and retail, demonstrating the broader value of community-driven sporting events.

The tournament also strengthened partnerships with Water Polo Queensland and raised the sport’s profile through strong social media engagement and regional visibility.

Building Connections Across Regions — and Oceans

Connections remain a defining feature of the SC Series. For the second consecutive year, the event welcomed visiting squads from North Harbour, who joined Sunshine Coast teams for a weekend of outstanding water polo, sportsmanship, and fun. These inter-regional and international relationships continue to enrich the experience for players and families alike.
