FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who can join the Adelaide University Tennis Club?

Anyone! We welcome Adelaide University students, staff, alumni, and community members. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, there's a place for you at AULTC.

Do I need to be a student to become a member?

Not at all! While we are a university-affiliated club, non-students and community players are welcome to join and participate in both social and competition tennis.

I’ve never played before. Can I still join?

Absolutely! Our social tennis sessions are designed to be inclusive, relaxed, and beginner-friendly. No experience? No problem — just bring your enthusiasm (and maybe a racquet).

What’s the difference between social and competition tennis?

  • Social Tennis is for fun, fitness, and friends — no pressure, no experience required.

  • Competition Tennis is for players who want structured matchplay and team competition. This includes Saturday Morning Men’s Lawn Tennis Association (SMMLTA) matches, opportunities to support and grow women’s competition pathways (including Saturday afternoon and Thursday midweek competition), and representing Adelaide University in intervarsity events such as Uni Nationals and UTL.
Competition is welcoming, but a reliable standard of serving and rallying consistently is recommended.

When and where are sessions held?

Most sessions take place at:

Park 10 – University Playing Fields
Bundeys Rd, North Adelaide SA 5006

In addition, the club also operates on:

  • Adelaide High School hard courts (hard court sessions and winter program)

  • Mawson Lakes campus courts (additional access and playing opportunities as scheduling allows)

We host weeknight social sessions and weekend competitions across both lawn and hard courts. Session days and times are confirmed each semester based on the majority availability of students, and schedules are shared via email and our social media.

What surfaces do you play on?

We play on both natural grass courts and hard courts. Our grass courts are a rare feature in SA, offering an authentic and fast-paced playing experience.

It's a fantastic way to meet people, gain experience, and shape the future of the club.
