Wentworth District Rowing Club

Member Protection Information Officer

Under the umbrella of Rowing Australia and Rowing Victoria every club is committed to ensuring that a diverse range of athletes continue to enjoy our sport for years to come and to providing a safe environment in which to do so.

Rowing Australia has developed this policy to reinforce its commitment to providing an environment for participants of all ages and backgrounds that is safe, free from harassment and abuse, and promotes respectful and positive behaviour and values.

The policy provides a code of conduct forming the basis of appropriate and ethical conduct which everyone must abide by. All State and Territory Associations and rowing clubs will also be required to adopt this policy.

This policy is an essential part of Rowing Australia’s proactive and preventative approach to tackling inappropriate behaviour within our sport. To read the policy click here

Purpose of the MPIO Role (Why does this role exist?)

The Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) provides information and guidance on the Member Protection Policy and its complaints procedures - they are the 'go to' person for our members who want to discuss problems at the club, particularly if a formal complaint is being considered.

MPIOs provide information about a person’s rights, responsibilities and options to individuals making a complaint or raising a concern. They can also provide information to administrators and complaint handlers with regard to the Member Protection Policy.

MPIOs play a key role in ensuring Rowing is safe, fair and inclusive. MPIOs do this through ensuring our club people and administrators know their rights and responsibilities and ensuring policies that focus on member protection are being implemented. Such policies may include but are not limited to the complaints policy and procedures, child protection policies, harassment and discrimination policies.
