Do you want to join a community that loves to spend time on the water, either having a leisurely sail on beautiful afternoon or challenging yourself against others and the elements. Then SAILING is for you. And when the day is over, sharing everything you did together with friends and family is pretty good too.
This can be a bit daunting but at Warrnambool Yacht Club we are trying to make is as easy as possible. No matter what your age you can learn the fundamental skills of sailing and have more fun on the water.
With accredited coaches our family-orientated club provides a welcoming environment to learn to sail. Our course involves both on-water and classroom activities and we support you every step of the way.

Learn to Sail - 2026
Members - $120 (Under 13 - $80)
Non-Members $180 (Under 13 - $90)
Come a enjoy our 6 week Learn to Sail program starting 11 Jan 2026. The program is designed to teach children (11+) and adults to go from sailing novices to sailing solo. By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Assess the weather conditions and decide if today is the right day to go sailing
- Set up your yacht
- Launch and retrieve your yacht &
- Sail in weather conditions appropriate to your skill
Each session run from 9am to 1pm on the following dates.
Session 1 - 11 Jan 2026 (Introduction to sailing)
Session 2 - 18 Jan 2026 (Water safety)
Session 3 - 1 Feb 2026 (Skills development)
Session 4 - 15 Feb 2026 (Setting those sails)
Session 5 - 22 Feb 2026 (Rules of seafaring)
Session 6 - 8 Mar 2026 (Optimal Sailing - racing)
A BBQ and soft drink will be available at the end of each session to re-fuel and discuss the day’s activities.
Warrnambool Yacht Club is a Child Safe sports club.
Disclaimer: Sailing is a sport that involves interacting with uncontrollable and difficult to predict elements of nature and therefore involves a degree of risk. Many of the risks inherent in the sport are intuitive. While coaches and their assistants will ensure safety protocols are adhered to, injuries may occur. All participants must to enrol as temporary members of Sailing Australia for insurance purposes.
