Opti Age Explained

Opti Age – an Explanation

Opti Age is the age you are on the 31st December of the year of the event.

For Example - Regardless of how old you are when the event is held, if you turn 12 at any time during the year the event is held in, you are Opti Age 12YO

How long can I sail an Optimist?
A skipper can only race Optimists until December 31 in the year they turn 15. On December 31 of that year, they are what’s called ‘aged out’ of the Optimist Class and can no longer race the boat, unless the regatta they are competing in commenced on or before the 31st of December of the previous year. For example -  You turn 16 in 2020, but the event starts on 27th December 2019, so you can enter. If the event starts on 3rd January 2020, you are too old.
