SYDNEY SPIRIT BCS DRAGON BOAT TEAM

SYDNEY SPIRIT Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) Dragon Boat Club is officially accredited with DBNSW. We are a unique collection of sports-minded survivors not affiliated with DAA that race in BCS and ACS events within NSW, at Nationals, and internationally at WCC BCS events.

Breast Cancer has been a major part of the lives of many dragon boaters; for numerous people this is where their introduction to dragon boating commenced. Over the years many paddlers who started with a BCS team increased their levels of fitness and paddling expertise to become highly competitive paddlers representing their state and Australia.

SYDNEY SPIRIT members pride themselves on having this competitive spirit. Many of the crew have competed at international events both in BCS clubs and sports clubs and relish the high level of competition in the BCS category at international events.

SYDNEY SPIRIT are committed to being competitive and to training hard and expect to bring home great results from all national and international regattas we enter. We have a wonderful level of camaraderie within the club and truly cherish our teammates who include people who have had breast cancer as well as those who are currently living with incurable breast cancer. To this end, SYDNEY SPIRIT members are living proof that training and treatment can sustain an excellent quality of life, even in people for whom a cure is not an option.

As the major objective for the Sydney Spirit BCS club is to compete at National and Club Crew World Championships, preparation to compete at these levels requires paddlers to undergo training at a level similar to a Dragon Boat Sports club, which can be quite intensive. Paddlers are expected to comply with the training program as set out by the coaches for the upcoming events program.
