Australian Sailing - Keelboat: Spinnakers

Course information

This course is sold out.

In signing up, you are committing to attending all three sessions.

With racing season just around the corner, we’re running a Spinnaker Course 🚀⛵️

This is a great opportunity to build on your existing sailing skills and learn how to use an asymmetrical and/or symmetrical spinnaker — and have a bit of fun along the way!

Initially, we’ll focus on asymmetrical spinnakers, as this is what we will predominantly race with on Salt-E-7. We’ll then aim to build into symmetrical spinnaker sailing as the course and racing session progresses.

Course Overview
The course introduces you to the fun and challenge of using spinnakers, including both asymmetrical and symmetrical sails.

Prerequisites
You’ll need to be water confident and have the skills, knowledge and experience gained through at least Start Crewing and Start Helming, or equivalent on-water practical experience.

This is not an introductory learn-to-sail course - if this is you, please watch out for our next start crewing or helming :)

Who is it for?
This course is aimed at those looking to socially race with on Salt-E-7 in the Spinnaker Series and other regattas.

If you’ve grasped the fundamentals of sailing and want to take the next step into spinnaker sailing and racing, this is for you.

Cost

VETERANS & THEIR FAMILIES: This course is fully funded for SVSP Salty Supporters, with participants only required to pay the external Australian Sailing certification fee of $22.04.

  • If you're currently registered as a Funded Community Participant, you'll need to upgrade to an SVSP Salty Supporter Membership ($75/year) before registering. This membership helps SVSP cover the logistics involved in delivering courses and ensures we can continue providing supported sailing programs, training opportunities, scholarships and regatta access.

  • 💬 Financial hardship support is available — please reach out if cost is a barrier. We never want finances to prevent someone from getting out on the water.

Course Outcome
You’ll gain your Spinnakers Completion Certificate.

🏁 Racing season is coming — time to get the kite up! ⛵️🔥
