We’re looking for volunteers to help Saltwater Veterans Sailing Project support the upcoming KUTT Open Day.
Rather than simply putting our boats on display, we have the opportunity to create an active, hands-on experience for attendees and showcase what we actually do — getting veterans and their families on, in and around the water.
The concept is to bring along some of our marine assets and provide short experiences, potentially including:
⛵ Short sails on our sailing vessels
🛟 RHIB rides / transfers
⚓ A small shore-based Saltwater Veterans presence
👋 An opportunity to talk with attendees about our programs and veteran community
The public wharf looks like it could work well as a PAX transfer point, allowing participants to RHIB TX and then embark onto the sailing vessels for short experiences — potentially around 10-15 minute sails.
There is also a great story behind bringing Salt-E-7 along. HMAS Warramunga played a key role in transporting our Elliott 7 from Darwin to Sydney, with FBE assisting with the logistics, storage and launch arrangements that made that possible. Having Salt-E-7 back alongside Defence personnel would be a great continuation of that story.
What we need
We’re looking for volunteers to help with:
- ⛵ Sailing crew / instructors
- 🛟 RHIB crew
- 🧭 PAX movements and marshalling
- 🦺 Safety / lifejacket management
- 🏕️ Shore-side setup and pack-down
- 🤝 Talking with attendees and representing Saltwater Veterans
- 📸 Photography / content if available
You don’t need to be an instructor to help — there will be plenty of jobs ashore and around the boats.
This is a great opportunity to demonstrate what Saltwater Veterans is about and give people a genuine experience of our organisation rather than simply showing them a boat.
If you’re available to support, please comment below or send me a message so we can start building the volunteer roster.
