🌊 SVSP Regatta Participation Scholarship
Supporting Veterans and Families to Compete Beyond Our Nominated Events
The Saltwater Veterans Sailing Project (SVSP) recognises that many of our sailors and crews take the initiative to represent our veteran sailing community in regattas and competitions outside of our nominated SVSP events.
To help make this possible, we’ve introduced the SVSP Regatta Participation Support Initiative — designed to provide modest reimbursement assistance for eligible individuals or crews who wish to represent our values and spirit on the water while continuing to build skills, confidence, and connection through sailing.
⚓️ How It Works
As a current-season Salty Supporter and Volunteer Crew, simply:
-
Complete the online Expression of Interest (EOI) form prior to your event or regatta.
-
Confirm and pay your entry directly with the event host or yacht club.
-
Participate and represent the Saltwater Veterans Sailing Project in good faith — embodying teamwork, inclusivity, and respect on and off the water.
-
Submit your SVSP Reimbursement Application following event completion (details below).
💰 Funding Support
Individual Entries (such as for dinghy entries)
Up to $75 reimbursement per approved application. Scholarships are initially limited to one per year, with up to $75 per person reimbursed per approved application.
Crew Entries
Reimbursement levels (up to 100% funded) will be assessed based on impact and participation.
-
While mixed crews are welcome, funding support will be proportionate to the number of current-season SVSP participants onboard.
-
SVSP can assist by creating a RevSport registration event to help recruit and register SVSP participants.
Additional Scholarship Funding
Further scholarship funding may be available for:
-
Yacht owners – who enable greater participation opportunities for other veterans through the use of their vessels.
-
Active volunteers, instructors, and coaches – who contribute to the SVSP mission by:
-
Leading or instructing during SVSP sail training activities
-
Skippering during events or regattas
-
Supporting logistics, administration, fundraising, or grant writing
Reimbursements apply to event entry fees only and SailPass is not included.
Funding availability is subject to the current SVSP season budget(1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026) and the level of demonstrated connection to our veteran community outcomes.
👨👩👧 Who Can Apply
This support is open to:
-
Veterans and immediate family members who are current registered SVSP Sailing Supporters.
-
Mixed crews that include at least one current SVSP participant, provided the event aligns with our values and promotes positive representation of the Saltwater Veterans Sailing Project.
✅ How to Claim Your Reimbursement
Following the event, simply submit your SVSP Regatta Reimbursement Request, including:
-
Confirmation that you are a current-season SVSP Sailing Supporter
-
Proof of participation (e.g. regatta results, event program, or official listing)
-
Receipts for entry fees
-
A short reflection or photo for use in SVSP social media or community updates (optional but encouraged)
⚠️ Please note: SVSP does not provide reimbursement for withdrawn entries, cancellations, or no-shows.
💙 Why We Do It
This initiative helps ensure that veterans and their families can continue to participate in meaningful, skill-building sailing experiences — even when outside SVSP-hosted events.
It’s one more way we’re fostering connection, confidence, and community through the power of wind, water, and teamwork.
