Interested in completing a sailing or safety boat course through one of our supporting clubs — or a local Australian Sailing–accredited centre near you?
Through the Saltwater Veterans Sailing Project (SVSP) Pathways Scholarship, we aim to support veterans and their families in progressing through the Australian Sailing Pathway — from dinghy, keelboat, and powerboat, to windsurfing and foiling.
This initiative supplements our own SVSP training programs and helps you gain nationally recognised skills and confidence on the water.
🌊 How it works
As a current-season Salty Supporter or Volunteer Crew, simply:
-
Complete the expression of interest (EOI).
-
Liaise & register (pay) directly with one of our partner or your local club (if you’re geographically remote — to select a course and confirm dates.)
-
Once you’ve completed your course, submit your SVSP online reimbursement application (details below).
Note: If you're currently registered as a Funded Community Participant, you'll need to upgrade to an Salty Supporter Membership ($75/year) before registering.
This membership helps SVSP cover the logistics involved in delivering courses and ensures we can continue providing supported sailing programs, training opportunities, scholarships and regatta access.
💬 Financial hardship support is available—please reach out if cost is a barrier. We never want finances to prevent someone from getting out on the water.

💰 Funding support
SVSP will reimburse up to $200 towards your course cost upon successful completion of approved courses conducted during the current SVSP season (1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026).
Additional funding may be available for:
-
Yacht owners – who enable greater participation opportunities for other veterans through the use of their vessels.
-
Active volunteers, instructors, and coaches – who contribute to the SVSP mission by:
-
Leading or instructing during SVSP sail training activities
-
Supporting logistics, administration, fundraising, or grant writing
(this additional funding availability is subject to the current SVSP season budget(1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026) and the level of demonstrated connection to our veteran community outcomes.)
Courses typically cost between $350–$550, and thanks to the generous support of our donors, sponsors, and fundraising efforts, this SVSP initiative helps reduce the financial barrier to gaining valuable on-water qualifications.
👨👩👧 Who can apply
This support is available to veterans and their immediate family members, all of whom must be current SVSP Sailing Supporters (2025–26 season).
✅ How to claim your reimbursement
Courses are independently delivered by our partner clubs — all accredited Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centres.
SVSP provides funding support through a reimbursement model upon successful course completion.
To request reimbursement, you must:
-
Be a current SVSP Sailing Supporter (sorry no SailPasses)
-
Complete the course within the current approved season.
-
Submit your SVSP online course reimbursement request (link provided upon registration).
-
Provide copies of:
⚠️ Important: SVSP does not provide reimbursement for non-completions or no-shows. This model helps minimise the risk of wasting valuable fundraising funds and ensures support is directed to those who complete their training. For courses costing less than $200, the actual receipted amount will be reimbursed.
