The club, founded by 2 badminton enthusiasts, Nicolas Nathaneal, and Frida B who identified a pressing need withing the Western suburb community for a high-quality social group. They saw an opportunity to fill this gap and create a vibrant hub for badminton lovers.

With a shared vision of creating a space where players can push their limits and elevate their game, Nico and Frida  have established a vibrant community centered around the sport they love. They aim to foster a supportive atmosphere where players feel encouraged to challenge themselves, learn from each other, and strive for excellence both on and off court. Together, they form a tight-knit community united by their love for badminton and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of their abilities.

The word SURJA, derived from the combination of "Sur" representing Surabaya, and "Ja" from Jakarta, not only pays homage to the hometowns of the founders but also carries a deeper significance rooted in Sanskrit. Meaning "sun" or "radiant", SURJA embodies qualities of brightness, warmth, and positivity.

Like the sun's rays reaching far and wide, Surja BC aims to reach players from all backgrounds and skill levels, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and grow. 

The name SURJA serves as a reminder of the club's mission to radiate warmth and positivity, nurturing a supportive community where members can come together to pursue their passion for badminton, forge lasting friendships, and bask in the joy of the sports.

Surja Badminton Community is a unique space that goes beyond the courts. Fostering a sense of community and bringing them together. We work as a mediator and a hub that facilitate connections and collaborations between different clubs, associations, and academies, helping them work together towards common goals. 

We serve as a central point of contact and activity for the badminton community, organising events and programs, and resources that benefit all involved.
