Coaching Requirements

St Joes appreciates any club member who would like to take on a coaching role or an assistant coaching role. Contact the St Joes Board if you are interested, and we will assist you in your aspiration of coaching within our club. Coaching requirements are:

• Working with Children’s Check [current NSW WWCC]
• First Aid
• Coaching Qualification – Level One (optional)
• Positive attitude with the aim to improve skills of all our players, and foster a love for the game of soccer.

Game Day

All coaches will need to organise their team during training and on the game day. Aim to be there earlier enough to make sure the following are in order;

• Ensure all players wear soccer boots, shin pads, and the correct uniform before the game starts.
• Ensure that your soccer kit has all the required equipment;
  • Soccer shirts and shorts (16), spare socks, and a roll of black tape.
• All coaches for competition grades [U12, U14, U17 & Senior Grades] must fill out the match card with the team player’s correct name next to their shirt number. No nicknames are to be used on the match card. The match cards are held at the referee official near the front gate. If for any reason the club coach cannot do this, another St Joes Official or the team captain will take responsibility. Names of every player who is playing in the game need to be on the card. Please check the spelling of names, especially if your team is playing for points. Mis-spelt names will have points deducted from the team.
• Each senior team must organise a qualified person to run the ‘Sides Lines’ during a game if a linesman has not been provided by the association. The game cannot start unless there are 2 people there to do the lines.
• All Jewellery is to be removed before playing.
• Foul language on the field is a red card offence. Any offensive language or negative behaviour towards anyone will not be tolerated by the club and may result in the player being fined by the SJSC.
• When making a substitution, the player on the field must entirely step off from the field first from the halfway line, before the substitute can step onto the field. If this is violated a yellow card will be issued to the substitute stepping onto the field.
• If a player is red-carded, they must leave the field immediately and potentially the soccer grounds. Please refrain from bringing the game into disrepute, as this will have an effect on the club and fellow members. However, in the event of a red card the club will always back its players and seek a fair trial.
• Always praise and shake hands with all officials (referee & linesperson), coaches and players after the game, regardless of the outcome. Good sportsmanship is the pride of our club.

Training Equipment

As of Round One of the season; all coaches are to account for the equipment that they use during training sessions and game days.

• Take home any bibs worn to be washed.
• Flat or damaged balls are to be placed in the clearly marked box. Please keep track of the number of damaged balls you have placed in the box.
• If you need extra balls please use the ones marked spare. Please keep track of the number of spare balls you have replaced in your kit.
• If you need extra bibs or equipment, please ask our equipment officer.

Incidents

During the event of an incident, the coach can step onto the field and either assess or assist the situation. However, in the situation that an ambulance is needed, please consider these steps;

1. Player to be moved, please assist off from the field and commence first aid.
2. The player is not to be moved, call 000 (ambulance) and direct them to soccer grounds, on the corner of Beryl Street & Bagot Street, Broken Hill NSW 2880. The only entrance for the ambulance is the top field far corner.
3. Gain assistance from another club member to open these gates and wave the ambulance in.
4. A player or coach is required to stay with the injured player until the ambulance has arrived and assessed the situation.
5. A player or family member can go with the injured player to the hospital.
6. The coach has the responsibility for the remaining players on the field and needs to remain with the rest of the team.
7. The coach ensures the gates are closed and locked, once the situation has been resolved.
8. Coach to check on the player at the hospital and assist where possible.
9. The coach will need to record all events that took place, signed and dated as this could be used in a court of law.
