SynchroWA Risk Management Workshop

Event information

This event has passed.

SynchroWA is required by the Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety, to have a Risk Management Plan which addresses all of its operational activities.  It is now mandatory for Not-for-profit organisations to meet workplace health and safety standards similar to those of business organisations.  This requires much greater planning, structure and transparency in the management of risk.

As the management of risk now has significant legal ramifications for this organisation's Boards (State and Club) and key operational personnel, it is important that our Risk Management Plan meets Australian Standards. To ensure we are compliant with the Australian Standards, the Board of SynchroWA has engaged a Safety and Risk Consultant who will assist in the development of a Risk Management plan.

The first step is to develop a risk register, which involves identifying and rating hazards associated with all aspects of operations and some governance activities.  This includes Club training, HP trials and training, Come and Try events, Big Synch, regional programs and events, and competitions. It is important to have input from SynchroWA Board Members, Club Board Members, the Competition Manager, coaches and members who have key operational roles associated with the items listed. It is equally important to understand the parameters of legal responsibility for each and every person who has a governance or operational role.

The Clubs should understand they must perform their due diligence with respect to Risk Management for their club activities by having the appropriate plans in place.

Sheryl Kelly is a Safety and Risk Consultant with Verum Solutions Australia, and will be leading the workshop to develop the risk register.  Sheryl has extensive experience in Workplace Health and Safety in both the business and Not-for-Profit sectors.

While it is understood that attending a full day workshop is a big commitment, the importance of your attendance and input cannot be understated.  Even if you are available for only part of the time, you are encouraged to participate. It would be helpful for planning purposes to know if you have to arrive late or leave early, so please ensure this information is provided.

The SynchroWA Board, a Board Member from each Club, the Competition Manager and Club Head Coaches are all encouraged to attend the entire workshop.
