PRINCIPLES OF CODE OF CONDUCT

The Fair Play Code outlines a set of guiding principles on expected standards of behaviour for every person involved in sport and recreation in Victoria.

This includes every player, participant, coach, official, club member, spectator, parent, volunteer or member of the public involved with sport and recreation in Victoria. All should demonstrate the principles of integrity, respect, responsibility, fairness and safety in relation to sport, recreation, training and club sanctioned activities by the people involved in it.

GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT

As a member of Shepp Feathers Inc, you are required to meet the following in regard to your conduct during any activity held or conducted by Shepp Feathers.

  1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others.
  2. Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others.
  3. Be professional and accept responsibility for your actions.
  4. Make a commitment to providing quality service.
  5. Be aware of and maintain an uncompromising adherence to Shepp Feathers standards, rules, regulations and policies.
  6. Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with persons under 18 years of age, as your words and actions are an example for others to follow.
  7. Be transparent in your behaviour and interactions with everyone and avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with children under 18 years of age, wherever possible.
  8. Refrain from any form of harassment of others.
  9. Provide a safe environment for the conduct of the activity.
  10. Show concern and caution towards others who may be sick or injured.
  11. Be a positive role model.
  12. Understand the repercussions if you breach, or are aware of any breaches of this code of conduct.

PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT

In addition to the General Code of Behaviour, you are required to meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any activity conducted by Shepp Feathers.

  1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of fellow players, coaches, officials and spectators.
  2. Do not tolerate acts of aggression – Report it.
  3. Respect the talent, potential and development of fellow players and competitors.
  4. Care for and respect the equipment provided to you as part of your program.
  5. Be frank and honest with your coach concerning illness and injury, and your ability to train fully within the program requirements.
  6. Be prudent and vigilant in protecting your safety and space in every interaction with fellow players and officials.
  7. Abide by the rules and respect the decision of the official, making all appeals through the formal process and respecting the final decision.
  8. Be honest in your attitude and preparation for training. Work hard for yourself and your team.
  9. Respect the court time allowed for games.
  10. Zero tolerance for loud, abusive or profane language;
  11. Zero tolerance for racquet throwing or indiscriminately hitting the shuttle;
  12. Zero tolerance for harassment of any form (sexual or otherwise), including but not limited to sexual discrimination, physical, racial, gender or psychological abuse, foul or suggestive language or unwanted attention of any kind;
  13. Keep positive whether you win or lose, whether you are having a good day or not;
  14. Develop a consistent habit of good sportsmanship and fair play, for example;
    a) Keep the score correctly; state the score clearly after each rally;
    b) Call the lines fairly (remember it is the lines on your own side of the net for which you are responsible)
    c) Shake hands after each match; (not applicable during COVID restrictions)
    d)Congratulate your opponent politely if you lose;
    e) Acknowledge a strength, good shot, or good rally of your opponent when you win;
    f) Accept congratulations graciously from your opponent; Proper badminton attire required, for example, indoor court shoes, shorts or tracksuit pants & T-shirt;

SPECTATORS CODE OF CONDUCT

As a spectator in any activity held or under Shepp Feathers, you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any such activity or event.

  1. Respect the decisions of officials and teach young people to do the same.
  2. Never ridicule or scold a young player for making a mistake. Positive comments are motivational.
  3. Condemn the use of violence in any form, whether it is by other spectators, coaches, officials or players.
  4. Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them, there would be no game.
  5. Do not use violence, harassment or abuse in any form (that is, do not use foul language, sledge or harass players, coaches, officials or other spectators.
  6. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural or religious background.

OFFICIALS CODE OF CONDUCT

In addition to the General Code of Conduct, all officials are required to meet the following while officiating during any activity held or conducted by Shepp Feathers.

  1. Place the safety and welfare of the players/participants above all else.
  2. Accept responsibility for all actions taken.
  3. Be impartial in your decisions/judgements made.
  4. Avoid any situation which may lead to a conflict of interest.
  5. Be courteous, respectful and open to discussion and interaction.
  6. Value the individual in the sport.

PARENT/GUARDIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

As a parent/guardian of a player participating in any activity held or under Shepp Feathers, you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any such activity or event.

  1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others.
  2. Remember that your child participates in sport for their own enjoyment, not yours.
  3. Focus on your child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
  4. Never ridicule or yell at your child and other children for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  5. Show appreciation for good performance and skilful plays by all players (including opposition players).
  6. Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with or in the vicinity of persons under 18 years of age, as your words and actions are an example.
  7. Respect official’s decisions and teach children to do likewise.
  8. Do not physically or verbally abuse or harass anyone associated with the sport) player, coach, umpire and so on).
  9. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  10. Be a positive role model.
  11. Understand the repercussions if you breach, or are aware of any breaches of this code of conduct.
