ANNUAL WORKING BEE

The annual Sandy Bay Sailing Club working bee is being held on the 13th of September. We have a list of things to do around the club to get ready for the new season.  Come and join us for an hour or stay for the whole day. Any time you can spare to help would be appreciated. At the end of the day, we will have a free drink and a BBQ for all volunteers.

SBSC SPONSORSHIP

SBSC has launched a new sponsorship campaign and is looking for sponsors for 2025-26 (or longer). If you have or know of a business that might be interested in sponsoring the club, please get in touch with committee member Shona Prior. Phone 0408 004 699 or email priorshona@gmail.com

2025/2026 SAILING CALENDAR

Our 2025/2026 Season Calendar is live.

We have lots on offer this season including new windsurfing classes, adult learn to sail, Cadet learn to sail, 29er Nationals and the very first SBSC Short Course Championship.  See the full calender on the SBSC website HERE.

Youthsail 2025 is nearly here at SBSC with all sailors under 23 years welcome, with Green to Advanced being catered for.  Come and meet Olympian Olivia Price, listen to offshore sailor Megan Grant, learn about the importance of good nutrition.

This year we are making an extra effort to encourage new sailors to come along to be part of our Green Fleet Coaching Clinic.  Led by experienced Coach, Nick Neale, Green Fleet will be two days of coaching full of various sailing opportunities to learn fundamental skills to build confidence and independence.  Green Fleet will be well supported for the two day Championship with their own Coach on the water.

Green Fleet will also have the opportunity to experience sailing an SB20 keelboat! Don’t miss out on playing in boats, having fun and making new friends!

There are free boats available in some classes, so get in touch if you would like to book a boat.

MEMBER FACILITIES

CLUB SECURITY AND CHANGE OF LOCKS

There have been numerous instances of club facilities (compound and sheds) being left open while members are either out sailing, or have left the premises.  It is imperative that all buildings and the compound are secured when  members are not in attendance.

The Committee have recently changed all locks on the club building and compound.  Any existing keys that you may have will no longer work.  The lockbox key has been changed and the lockbox code remains the same. A big thank you to Jen Potter for your work on this.

BOAT STORAGE

Sandy Bay Sailing Club provides a boat storage facility for our members.  There is a fee for this service which must be paid by anyone storing a boat at the club.  This helps pay for upkeep of facilities and improvements to club infrastructure.  We are currently reconciling boats stored at the club against the list of currently paid storage. If you have a boat at the club and haven’t notified admin or paid storage fees, please let us know asap and we will arrange for an invoice to be sent out to you.  Thanks to Dave McQuillen for your assistance.

INTERNATIONAL CADET WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - LAKE LIPNO, CZECHIA

Five SBSC teams were selected to head over to the International Cadet World Championship in Lake Lipno, Czechia. The World Championship was an absolutely incredible experience and an emotional roller coaster for all of our sailors and parents - in the end, we are grateful to have had the chance to represent Australia and Sandy Bay Sailing Club. Before this event, given the lake setting and difficult winds, the AUS Coach said he would expect two Australian boats to make the top 10. Finishing with 4 Australian boats and 2 SBSC boats in the top 10 and all SBSC boats in the top 20, is an astounding achievement. And you’ll all be pleased to know that SBSC is well known and highly regarded by the other nations. Our little club produces some of the best young sailors in the world and we are so immensely proud of each and every one of them.

Final Overall World Championship Results:
4th - Shmoken (Isaac/Archie)
5th - Upshift (Henry/Thomas)
11th - Executioner (Olive/Sam)
18th - Stoked (Sarah/Harriett)
19th - Incognito (Alex/Lachie)
