Beyond the Boat – Preparing for Regattas Series
With a large number of sailors representing RQYS and Queensland at international regattas and World Championships this winter, the RQYS Sailing Academy is running a series of theory sessions to support preparation in the lead-up. All Youth Squad sailors and families are encouraged to come along, not just those attending these international events.
Beyond the Boat – Preparing for Regattas is focused on building the skills needed to perform on race day. Across the series, we’ll cover:
Mental preparation and confidence
Race-day processes and routines
Goal setting and performance habits
Fueling your body
We’re lucky to be working alongside QAS, with input from both coaches and athletes who’ve competed internationally. Sessions will be a mix of practical activities, personal reflections, and panel-style discussions. Sailors should bring something to take notes with, and parents are encouraged to attend.
Learn how to break down a new venue before you arrive, so you can hit the water with a clear plan. We’ll cover how to research conditions, identify key factors like wind, tide and geography, and turn that into a simple, usable race plan. Expect a practical session with examples and tools you can use for your next regatta.
