Redcliffe Leagues Softball Association

About

Softball in Redcliffe began in 1962, when Betty Paxton and June Horne, with help from Audrey McLaughlin, sparked local interest in the sport. Supported by the Redcliffe PCYC and the Lions Club, the first Redcliffe teams joined the Brisbane competition—quickly growing to 14 teams and becoming Queensland’s largest club at the time.

By 1984, the Redcliffe Softball Association was officially formed, hosting its first fixtures at Boardman Oval. As the sport expanded, the Association moved to larger grounds—settling in 1998 at the current site on Boardman Road, Kippa-Ring, now known as the Betty Paxton Fields.

Today, Redcliffe Softball boasts 10 diamonds (including 2 with competition lighting) and a modern clubhouse with canteen, bar, and storage facilities. Continued support from the Redcliffe City Council and State Government grants has helped improve lighting and facilities, ensuring the strong future of softball on the Peninsula.

From humble beginnings to one of Queensland’s leading community softball hubs, Redcliffe Softball continues to build on a proud tradition of teamwork, growth, and community spirit.
