What an incredible weekend it has been for the Rovers-Cardinals Hockey Club.
On behalf of the Committee, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to every player, member, life member, supporter, sponsor and volunteer who helped make this weekend such a remarkable success. It was a weekend that truly showcased what makes our club so special – our people, our culture and our sense of community.
Club Day – Saturday 1 August
Our annual Club Day was everything we hoped it would be. With hockey being played throughout the day, raffles, great food, plenty of laughs and finishing with our iPod Shuffle Night, there were countless memories made both on and off the field.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing both of our 2/3 teams take to the field between the senior fixtures. Watching our youngest Redbacks proudly represent the club in front of such a large crowd was a fantastic reminder that the future of our club is in great hands. They are certainly future stars in the making.
We were also incredibly proud to celebrate Erin Ralph's 400th A-Grade game. Reaching such an extraordinary milestone is a testament to Erin's dedication, commitment and love for the club. It was wonderful to see so many people gather to acknowledge and celebrate this achievement.
To our opposition on the day, Australs Hockey Club and Vets Hockey Club, thank you for embracing the spirit of Club Day and joining us in the celebrations. Your support helped make the day even more special.
More than anything, what stood out was seeing so many familiar faces around the clubrooms. It reinforced what we all know – Rovers-Cardinals isn't just a hockey club, we're one big family. Seeing generations of members together, from our youngest players through to our life members, is something we should all be incredibly proud of.
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle – Sunday 2 August
The celebrations didn't stop there. On Sunday we held our annual Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, which was another outstanding success and raised much-needed funds that will directly support our club and our members.
A huge thank you goes to Woolworths Seacrest and The Luscombe Syndicate for their generous donations of goods, which played a significant role in making the day such a success. Your continued support of our club is sincerely appreciated.
Finally, as Club President, I want to personally thank every single volunteer who gave up their time throughout the weekend. Whether you were setting up for Club Day, selling raffle tickets, cooking sausages, serving customers, packing up, or helping behind the scenes, your willingness to volunteer is what keeps our club thriving.
Community sporting clubs simply do not survive without volunteers, and this weekend was a perfect example of the incredible commitment and generosity that exists within our membership. I am continually humbled by the number of people who step forward to lend a hand whenever it is needed.
Thank you all for making this such a memorable weekend. Together we continue to build a club that is successful not only on the field, but one that is welcoming, supportive and built on genuine friendships and community spirit.
I look forward to seeing everyone around the club as we head towards the business end of the season.
